Tomorrow I'm going to test drive the new Pontiac G6 convertible. I'm thinking of trading my 02 black Escalade for it. My 02 is getting up there in miles, the warranty is about to expire, and there is some minor interior/exterior deterioration going on that will just continue if I keep using it.

What do you guys think? Should I ride it til the wheels fall off or take advantage of the decent trade-in value now? I've never owned a convertible, what are some of the negatives to driving one vs the SUV? I know some of the positives!

I probably won't make a decision tomorrow, but I figured I'd ask here for some opinions.

I have owned many convertible's but none were daily drivers, your truck is getting to that age were the price will start dropping off pretty quick. Without knowing where you live or what you use your truck for it's tough to tell you what would be better, but that's your choice. ;)

Keep the truck.

I live in California and the truck is a daily driver. We got a good deal on it and bought it before the whole gas hike thing started. It's been maintained well, but again, it's a daily driver, and it hasn't been garaged, so it has flaws. We don't use all the cargo space too much so that's not a problem.

My biggest concerns are the gas costs (it cost me $80 a week to fill up right now, a smaller tank would only be around $50) and the depreciation that will continue. I'm about to roll over 50k miles, so I'm wondering if I should just trade it in.

Above 50k miles 4 wheel drive trucks start to really drop in price. :(

D'oh. That's what I was afraid of. My appointment got pushed back to Friday so I have some more time to mull it over.

You seem to know a lot about cars... What are some of the pros and cons of convertible vs SUV? I know the obvious difference, but what do you enjoy more? Is the "fun in the sun" feeling better than the comfort and style of the Escalade? Do you find that road noise in a convertible gets annoying after a while?

Also have you heard anything about the G6 convertible? Is it a good buy?

Thanks for the replies.

I dont know about the G6 convertible, but the G6 car is horrible (compared to the lade). I had to rent one on a business trip and I wanted to give it back for a Kia. It has a bit of "get up and go", but you hear a lot of road noise, rattles, etc... You will be very disappointed if you are a person who likes quality. I hate to push you away from GM, but I would go with another convertible (if thats what you want). Just my .02 cents. After you drive one I think you will see/feel the difference.

I think the G6 looks OK, very typical for a sedan/coupe, but the low price on it makes me think that it's probably kind of a cheap attempt at looking flashy. I know it's not going to really compare to the Escalade in terms of luxury, but then again, what will??

I will probably stick with GM because I get a supplier discount, but I'm just not 100% sure I want to give up my baby. I am however worried that if I don't do it now, my driving it everyday and once the '07s really pick up in sales and popularity, I will be SOL with my trade-in value.
