View Full Version : AVG MPG is around 10.5 help integline 05-16-06, 12:43 AM he guys my mpg is around 10.5 to 11 at most times. i have just got the fuel filter replaced and the injectors cleaned but still low mileage. With gas at almost 4$ any help guys.
I am going to clean my throttle body out and see if that helps.
i also got a magnaflow full cat back and still have bad fuel mileage.
Thanks in advance for help. i dont think i drive with a lead foot, normally about the same acceleration as most cars around me. if you drive this big truck, you should know the mpg I can not get worse than 12 mpg around town no matter how I drive, the weird thing is I was just reading on the GM truck forum about two members that just installed Magnaflow cat back systems complaining about gas mileage, if I can find the post I will link it. integline 05-16-06, 11:02 AM well its not the problem that i drive a big truck, but when i lose 2-3 mpg i feel there is a problem Blacklac02 05-16-06, 11:10 AM Could be the Exhaust? Just a though. I get about 12-13 mpg around town. I have an '02 lade on 24s with 45K miles on the truck. Stock, no intake or exaust. I get around 13.9mpg or most of the time is 14.5mpg. I try and drive good too, but I do have a lead foot. integline 05-16-06, 02:35 PM shit for the price i got the exhaust for i thought it was a good deal but now im thinking its not.
I guess i need to figure thisone out. im going to call magnaflow and see. Spittin Game 05-16-06, 06:07 PM For the longest time I was at 10.5 miles per gallon or less. All of a sudden Im hovering around 11.5-12.1. I dont know why. damn, you guys are getting lower mpg than me! I thought mine was low! What grade fuel are you guys using? I use Chevron premium, sometimes plus. Uria702 05-16-06, 09:03 PM 10.5 and youre complaining i get 8.5 average im in nyc. I would guess the exhaust may be partly responsible for your mileage decrease. Reducing backpressure may give you small gains in high end hp, but low end performance and fuel economy may suffer some.
Did you change the o2 sensor when you added the exhaust? I know o2 sensors can have a huge affect on mpg, and they're not terribly expensive to replace. If the sensor is bad you won't maintain optimum air fuel ratio. That can be responsible for the big loss of mpg in such a short time period. I had a buddy who's sensor went bad....he noticed a sharp drop in mpg when it did.
Have the sensor checked and/or replaced. JMHO
Let us know what you find out. Cadillade 05-17-06, 01:13 AM I have been having low MPGs compared from the EPA rating on sticker. Now, it has been better from 10 to 11 MPG over the last month. Before that, when it gets cold out, it was like 7 in the dead of winter. I use Costco premium gas.
Now, it is getting warmer out, so the mileage increases a bit. My truck is all stock with almost 4K miles. It could be the brand of gas you buy. I use synthetic motor oil since 500 miles. I found that using premium gas improve the MPG some than regular unleaded.
I am thinking about putting 5 more PSI in the tires. Now, I have it 30 all around like the door jamb says.
Yeah, I know. It cost like over $3 more like $3.02 over here with premium unleaded at Costco.
Are the EXTs the heavier of the three because of the rubber and the extra hardware of the midgate? integline 05-17-06, 03:38 AM that is funny you also use costco premium gas. maybe its that gas that makes the mileage lower. i will fill at chevron and see if their is a difference. I also just changed to syntheic recently and noticed nothing.
so this weekend if iget time ill get O2 checked and clean the thrttle body. If that doesnt work, ill just cut off my right foot so i no longer have a lead foot.:thepan: Spittin Game 05-17-06, 12:07 PM I use Costco regular and Im getting better mileage lately. Granted we are a mile high, so I can use the cheap stuff. Most of my family uses costco up here and no complaints. Blown4fun 05-17-06, 02:02 PM Guys gas mileage will vary. I would question the grade of gasoline before just trying expensive modifications. Surely oil companies would never lower the octane or quality of gas of a GD profit margin would they. AZ Escalade 05-17-06, 02:24 PM I use either Costco premium gas or Conoco (Giant) premium gas and averaging 17mpg. I drive 25 miles to and from work, most of it is surface streets. I usually go 5-10mph over the posted speed limit, except for the areas that the heavily speed trapped here in Tucson. My last round trip to Phoenix and back was about 16.5mpg averaging about 75-80mph. I also have no mods to the motor or exhaust; stock 17's. I would expect larger/wider wheels/tires might play a factor in this also. integline 05-18-06, 03:58 AM yea i am thinking it is the exhaust after reading all of this. Im sure costco has good gas and i get everything else serviced normally or as im told to. Only thing i can think of is the exhaust.
thanks if anyone else has some insight let me in on it, struggling college kid.
Ok not so struggling but if i could save a few here and there i would not be opposed to it. yea i am thinking it is the exhaust after reading all of this. Im sure costco has good gas and i get everything else serviced normally or as im told to. Only thing i can think of is the exhaust.

Have the o2 sensor checked! integline 05-18-06, 06:49 PM Have the o2 sensor checked!
that is on the to do list for saturday. where can i get it checked cheap/? It's kind of difficult for me to know who you can use in Cali. Maybe some other Cali members can chime in to help you with that. You may try Firestone if you have one locally. It never hurts to ask the guys at the Autozone or O'Riley parts stores....they can probably get you pointed in the right direction. They may even be able to check it for you. Sorry I can't be more help with that. :) The Pawnbroker 05-19-06, 12:21 AM What size tires are you running? Are you doing a manual calculation? BCCADILLAC 05-19-06, 08:35 AM now is not the time to pinch pennys, take it to the dealer. The dealer will be the only people who can/will watch the o2sensor. I expect that they will see one of the four sensors reacting very slow. They can react slow and not turn on the check engine light. Please call your dealer and ask them about a slow to change o2 sensor and if they would monitor it in your escalade.
That said 10.5 may be what your truck gets, so many things factor into it.
Chris 07slade 05-19-06, 07:04 PM the worst i have seen so far was 9mpg when I stomped on it at every light, stop sign and onramp and my best has been 13.5.. in a review of the truck, on a 200 mile drive a guy got 17!! integline 05-19-06, 08:00 PM freeways is fine, and this is not a manual calcm its using the car's computer. I sure can get it to go down easily but i cant ever get her to go up!!! haha. so tomorrow hopefully ill get the 02's checked, im going to call the dealership too and ask them.
Rolex, thank you for your input!! Thanks everyone for the support as well. The Pawnbroker 05-19-06, 11:33 PM So you have the stock tire size? Otherwise, the computer is meaningless and it may not be very accurate in either case. You should do a manual calculation. Keep in mind, if your tires are not the stock size, your odometer reading will be off and you will have to make a correction even if you do a manual calculation. integline 05-20-06, 01:03 AM im rolling on 22's 305/45
i am going to see how many miles i get on this tank and do a manual. im about haalf way into it. Very drunk righ now too!! With 22's you will not notice that much of a mpg diff. The wheel/tire size with the 22's is almost the same as with the stock wheel/tire size so you are not loosing anything through the odometer or the mpg. The only real change with the mpg is from the wheel weight but that should not make that much of a difference once you get the wheel moving
on the other hand, with 23"+ wheels you should start noticing that your odometer will change. This is because of the larger surface area with the bigger tires and infact it starts making your car computer think you are going less miles than you actually are(this is good for your odometer). But with these bigger wheels your MPG will go down by not more than .5-1 mpg and that is because of the computer thinking your using gas for 50miles while you really travelled 55miles.
You can use this to help you see the diff in tire size:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Overall the 22's should not be blamed for an mpg loss of .5 or more.
you should check any other component.
With my 24's I have an ododmeter diff of about 2-3 miles than what I am actually travelling, it inscreases the faster I go. For instance I am really going 77 when my odometer will say 75.
If you want you computer to account for the new wheel/tire size than you can by a programmer such as predetor and that will let you specifiy your new size and insert into the car computer.
hope this helps bblucero 06-02-06, 10:44 AM  I just got back from a road trip from CT to VA and my MPG is at 14.3 Before I took my '07 on a road trip I was getting about 11 MPG in town. |
