well, my catalytic converter is toast. SO instead of getting it replaced i was thinking of getting the shop just to throw some pipe in there instead of getting it replaced. AND getting them to weld up my flowmaster 40 series :D anyone done this? and if so, how did it sound?

First off, you should try and find out why the catalytic converter burned up. Could be that your car is running too rich or something. Check it out...

That's most likely illegal. And it's not illegal for a dumb reason either, those things cut toxic fumes by a factor of 12 or so, I think. If you like Los Angeles air and don't care, you will when you stand around it and enjoy the smell...:thehand:

As for the rest, like Illumina said, find out why it happened... Unless it's several years old, there's another issue to watch out for.

What kind of caddy is it? What year? I have an 87 deville with a flowmaster 80 series and magnaflow cat. I'll make a vid and pics. Before this i had a flowmaster 40 series delta flow.

Yeah, most likely you're going to have to find out what is causing the failure of that cat-converter and fix it. One option is to get a higher flow cat once you solve the problem of why it is failing.

As for exhaust mods, I use the Flowmaster dual output 80 series on the 4.9 and she sounds like an LT1 Camaro...:D

With 180.xxx miles, yes it might go bad. But I would still figure out if there is an underlying cause to the failure.

For example, did the mileage go way south before the cat failed?
Does the car have any miss to it?
Do you smell any fuel or anything?

Let us know so we can get you hooked up the right way...

illumina, my 87 has 94,000 miles on it. When i took my cat converter out, it was all shattered inside. I put a new one in, and now there is no smell period. And the gas mileage is crazy good. I also put on a new flowmaster 80 series on her, DAMN does that sound sweet past 2000rpms!! Also my 4100 now does 0-60mph in about 8.8 seconds.

You might find someone to do this after hours for a couple of bucks, but any legitimate shop will probably refuse. It's not that they don't want to do it for you, but it puts their license and their mechanic's certifications at risk if they do. Also, if you live in an emissions inspection state, you won't pass.

i live in canada :D

any shop here in town will do it. lol

milage started to suffer. figured the cat was starting to go as it has trouble getting off the line if you floor it. then i took it on that small trip and barely made it there, then i knew it was completely toast. im rolling my POS cavalier until i get the caddy fixed.

I have my cat still but no muffler just pipe. i took out the muffler and installed pipe to get the exhaust to the back of the car. sounds just like the flowmaster 40 my friend has and is not even louder. just a deep clean tone. I dont know why it sounds so good because ive heard some horror stories. just my 2 cents.
