Hope you are Ok? Sound like something out of the movie Christine. Just pull the four bolts holding the seat the chassis and yank it out.

You are correct about the seat covering the tracks. I will assume that it is a bench seat. If that is the case, then the front bolts should be accessible from the front without much problem. Once you know the size of the bolt, then get a ratcheting box wrench and attack the back bolts. It will be difficult, but it won't be impossible. Remove the back seat lower cushion to give yourself more room to work. Once you have the seat out, then you will be better able to assess the damage. For the most part, the seat cables are standard throughout the GM line, so they shouldn't present much of a problem to get. The motor is also relatively standard, but the seat transmission, the part that selects what gears to engage, is on the expensive side of the equation, since they go bad frequently. I am surprised that the circuit breaker didn't kick out before the damage occurred. I hope that you have fire insurance on the car, because re upholstery can be expensive....... Junk......

I had my shorts smoked... due to a SEAT FIRE ....but I had time to pull over and get the battery disconnected...I carry a small emergency toolkit in the trunk for those minor headaches or in this case the other end... good luck

There are usually two bolts in the rear and one bolt in the front of the seat tracks. If you need, I have a bench seat out that I can take a picture of for you. It is a spare that I had saved that I was going to put on eBay one of these days... It is out of a 1979 DeVille or Fleetwood..... don't remember which..... Junk....

at the opposite end of the tracks, but on the inside edge usually. Sometimes they used 2 in the rear and other times, only one. I have no idea why.... Don't forget that you need to remove the seat belt bolts before you can pull the seat out.... Junk....

easiest thing to do would be to repair that original wire harness with new wires. It isn't hard to do once you learn how to do it. Where do you live, I might be able to help you if you are near to CT/RI/MA. I live in the area where the three states come together.. Junk.

If you need it, I have a complete motor, transmission, cables, relay, tracks, etc. out of a 1979 DeVille bench seat that will work. It even has about 3 feet of the wires that can be spliced into your old wire harness... Send me a PM if you are interested.
