I'm getting a cooling fan fault code on my 86 Eldo.... and my engine temp gets up to 218 to 222 deg... how do I find out which fan it is?....I dont think that either one of them are working....
I just put in a new radiator, and still need the bars powder or the GM pellets to add to the coolant... I also just replaced the trans...
any help is as always greatly appreciated.

You mentioned a new radiator - double check all your fan connectors to make sure they're making good contact.

Most likely it's the coolant fan control module. Test by entering diagnostics: "Off" and "Warmer" buttons simultaneously on Climate Control. Let the trouble codes cycle run until .7.0 shows in the display. Then press "Econ" to enter the coolant fans override. Press "Hi" and hold for 30 seconds to command fans on, "Lo" to command them off. The "Auto Fan" light on your CC should come on within 15 seconds of pressing "Hi," then should go off when you push "Lo."

If both fans run, all is okay, if only one fan runs, the other may have a faulty fan motor. Test by jumpering the known good connector to the suspect fan, if it runs, the next step is to replace the cooling fans control module. Not sure where it is on the Eldo, but on my Deville it's behind the left headlight. It has a finned aluminum top and is slightly bigger than a pack of cigarettes. The new ones are kind of expensive, but I went to the junkyard and bought two of them for 10 bucks.

On an Eldo it is on the passenger side of the radiator support, hanging vertically. With the hood open you can see it.

Thanks Guys...
I found the cooling fan module and replaced it with one from my 87 Seville.... I also replaced the fan and the 195 deg thermostat with a 180 deg, ran it at idle until the thermostat opened up.... temp finally got to 219 deg when the fan kicked in....looks like evrything is working normally...
thanks:thumbsup:

The thermostat should be a 195 degree. While 180 wont hurt anything, it will affect overall fuel economy in the long run.
