It's amazing what you can do with some carefully applied paint stripper, a scrub brush, and some chrome polish. Since my wheels had that greyish, probably protective paint over the chrome on all but the outside facing surfaces, I decided to take it off. There was a thread on here a while back about this, and I carefully tested everything first. The entire wheel, including the inner surface of the rim has been stripped down, cleaned, and polished. One wheel took about an hour.

Not really sure why Cadillac paints these fully chromed wheels to start with, maybe something about owners not caring for them and experiencing pitting, or something, but since I keep my clean, I figure it can't hurt to expose the fully chromed surface. The stripper did not affect the chrome, as far as I could tell.

Here's a couple of before and after's....

I performed the same task on my '99 STS rims.
The results were outstanding ... the rims will blind you in
bright sunlight.
I'd say that 50% of the chrome is hidden under silver paint.
