View Full Version : Pierre Cardin Coupe deVille

Something tells me Sandy will have the answer to this. What is the deal with the Pierre Cardin edition Coupe deVilles? I think they were made between 1979 and 1982. I have brochures covering those years and it isn't mentioned in any of them. Was it a dealer installed package? I think I saw one once at a car show at Englishtown. At the time I had no idea what it was, I thought it was Coupe deVille with a wacky paint job and fancy interior. The only picture I've ever seen of one was a tiny black and white in Hemmings. Anyone have any info on these cars?

Nope, sorry to let ya down. I know little of them. I do believe that it was a tie in between the convertor who was in New York, possibly Long Island, and Cadillac, in that the cars would be shipped directly to the convertor. I do not how many were made, nor much else. I have seen a picture of 1 & none in person. All of my production #s begin with the 1985 and end with the 2004.

I found this link when I searched for them on Yahoo.

The picture Sandy posted and the car on that link are Eldorados. They seem to be Pierre Cardin related though (not bad looking either). Now this mystery just got deeper. All I've ever seen or read about the Coupe deVilles was a small want ad in Hemmings, there was a small picture of the car in it. The one I saw was white with a wide gold stripe down the side, I can't remember but I think it had a specially trimmed Saddle interior. Anyway, the car I saw kind of looked like the car in the ad. This must have been a really obscure option since no one has any good info on it. Maybe it was a half assed competitor to the Bill Blass Lincolns and the Frank Sinatra edition Imperial. Whatever, it's not a big deal, I don't expect anyone to go nuts over this.

Yes they did make a 79/82 coupe.
They seem to be a very rare find now. It was a custom two tone paint job, with a few emblem changes & some window etching.
The first ones were done in 79, the white phaeton was used.
It had a custom dark blue metallic inlay with a gold pinstripe. I know of one being restored now, I will try to post a picture of it.
80/82 had a couple of color choices, burgundy & champagne, with & gold, gold on gold & then a maroon. The coupes were used, not the fleetwood coupes.

Benzilla mentions it here, and there are some decent pictures:
