69 DeVille Convertible, the switch to operate top went out so I just wired in a toggle switch with the hot wire connected directly to the positive post of the battery. I installed a 30 amp fuse in the line between the battery and toggle. All was fine until I put in a (single wire) 100 amp alternator from PAW. Now the fuse for the top blows every time you put the top up or down. It seems not to blow until after the top opens or closes (ie.not in mid-travel). I'm assuming the alternator, which also has its one wire connected directly to the positive battery terminal (via pigtail), is the cause somehow. Just too much coincidence that it started blowing right after installing the alternator. Any ideas? I need the high output amp since my son put some big stereo components in and the 63 amp wasn't cutting it anymore - low/dead battery every couple of days. Any ideas on what is happening and how I can fix it? Thanks.
