View Full Version : How much would you pay, or is it worth? elwesso 01-24-04, 08:34 PM 95 FWB... Triple dark cherry.... 36,000 miles, is as new, no defects (minus a scratch and a scuff).... Interior is in as new condition.....

PLEASE NOTE ITS NOT FOR SALE. Im just curious as to how much you think its worth, to an enthusiast.... Sevillius 01-24-04, 09:05 PM A black 96 with under 18k sold this week in Virginia for 13K; therefore, I figure you would get 10 to 12 for yours.
In my pursuit to buy a FWD, I have noticed a tremendous variation in prices, more than most other cars I have noticed. I can see the same FWD (like the black one I mentioned) selling for anywhere from 18 to 12. What a swing in prices! I suppose the lousy weather at least here in Va. might encourage an eager seller to drop trow more than he would care to, if he wanted to sell in the next 2 months. Sweet looking car. I'd guess 10.5 to 13 if the mechanicals check out. The Airguide compass would be extra, of course. D. Mad'lac 01-24-04, 09:35 PM The car is worth at least 2 body parts. You could live with out one kidney and one arm is enough to drive an automatic. elwesso 01-24-04, 09:37 PM I forgot to add....
This has all the rare options.... Its got the gold trim, chrome wheels, towing package... Basically its got everything......
Not to mention the oil has been changed every 90 days (regardless of mileage), and id say 80% of the miles are on long highway trips (like florida)..... Mad'lac 01-24-04, 09:42 PM Throw in a big toe and you got a fair trade. HotRodSaint 01-25-04, 12:22 AM I'd say about 10-12. I paid high 13 a year ago and mine only had 14k on it.
Besides the Brougham package, the only options I'd actually pay a little more to get are, the tow package, the sunroof, the vinyl top delete and the security package for the locking fuel door (that should have been standard). It's worth what someone will pay for it. I would say a heck of a lot more than what's been mentioned! I was offered $22,000 cdn. which works out to around 17,000 U.S. Pretty good for a FWD (thats front-wheen-drive!) At the time, mine was never winter driven, and that is a selling advantage. (being able to say it!) If this is your Grandpas car, tell him not to "give it away" for 10 to 12,000! Stick to 20,000, this is NOT a crazy price! Somewhere out there, someone wants that car, and they will pay what you want for it. If not, I would keep it, and the miles off it because THAT and the condition are the 2 major selling points. I didn't look at the pictures this time, but I'm assuming that you're referring to grandpa's car, which I've seen numerous times on your site. IF I had the space, I'd be willing to pay as high as $13,000 for one that nice.
But remember, I'm the damn fool who let a perfect '96 get away a few months ago when I probably could've had it for $10,500. The one with a leaky, questionable trunk?? What was the mileage on that one? If it was the one you mentioned with a couple of flaws, then you may have done the right thing by waiting for another. If you weren't sure about it, then it was the wrong one for you. IMO. Now that Jag was another story! :D The leaky trunk was on a '99 Deville.
The Fleetwood was perfect, it was just too damn big to be a daily driver for me, plus it wouldn't fit in my garage.
Saw the father-in-law last night. He said something about the Jag, but I didn't comment on it. He's happy with his Chrysler. They deserve each other. FASSTWOOD 01-25-04, 12:06 PM I'd say about 10-12. I paid high 13 a year ago and mine only had 14k on it.

I didn't realize that was an option (locking fuel door). I got that! Cool! elwesso 01-25-04, 01:53 PM So you know... Its used as a second car, never even driven in the RAIN, much less snow.... Ive been under it, and there is no rust..... For some reason, there is a spot on the rear quarter panel (on the seam where the chrome meets the painted part)... WE're gonna spend good money to get that fixed....
Again, its not going to be sold...... Itll probably become mine sometime and Ill keep it in tip top shape.... Mad'lac 01-25-04, 02:29 PM I can see Wes Q preaching fire back on him and Grandpa trades the FWD for a Q. :histeric: brougham 01-25-04, 05:52 PM Prices are different for different areas, and when you do a search for them on the autotrader site they're all over the place. Something around $12,000 is probably a decent price if you did want to sell the car and you really wanted to sell it. That $20,000 Ralph said IS a crazy price, but he's right that there are probably some people out there who would pay that much for it. But if you were really trying to sell it and asked that much for it you'd probably have it for sale for a while. You can buy a 2000 Lincoln Town Car with around half the milage for that price.
Being a rear wheel drive Cadillac is a big plus for it. When I was looking for my Brougham I noticed that the 1990-1996s usually cost more then a front wheel drive DeVille or Fleetwood. I guess it's probably because they sold a lot less of them then the front wheel drive ones and they are the newest big Cadillacs that you can buy. If I was selling this car, then I certainly would start the price at 20,000! You can always go down. Lets just say there is always a sucker out there. ;) It can't be that "crazy" if I was offered 17,000 U.S. for a less popular front wheel drive version of the Fleetwood. I could phone the guy right now and get probably even more BECAUSE he really wants a low mileage MINT Caddy. Like you said, it all depends on region and where you are. I would add population to the mix, meaning, the population of Ontario is probably 10 times that of Saskatchewan, therefore more Cadillacs out there, therefore lowering their value. Less Caddies in Sask=more money for a prime example? The only problem with setting a price that high is the possibility of chasing some otherwise serious buyers away.
There was a beautiful black '95 fleetwood for sale around here with only 27,000 miles on it. The guy was asking $25,000 to start. Then he ran the ad again and asked $20,000. Then he put it on eBay. Nobody bid more than $9500 for it.
I would've called about it, and I might've made a serious offer (without actually driving it or bringing it home like I did the other one) but I figured why bother? The seller would probably be offended by an offer of $12000 and I'd be wasting his time and mine. That's true as well! I was at a dealership this last summer and this older Dude was looking to buy, he asked me about it and I got calky and went a little higher just to see if I could get more, well, not from him. But that's part of it IMO, testing the waters. You see, I don't really care to sell it, so I don't care to lower my price too much. If I needed money fast to pay off a debt or hired goons were after me, well that's a different story.
Regarding that black beautiful 1995, I wouldn't be to worried about low-balling too much to be offensive. Who knows, maybe he had no other offers at $25,000, and would gladly just accept your offer if he wanted to get rid of it? If he laughs in your face, or hangs-up on you, so what, you just saved 12,000 bucks. You might have said $10,000, and go up from there keeping the range well within your budget? Besides Elvis, remember, when I win the lotto, I am driving it to your doorstep, you got the dibbs on it, but you have to put on the new Michelins! ;) Besides Elvis, remember, when I win the lotto, I am driving it to your doorstep, you got the dibbs on it, but you have to put on the new Michelins! ;)

I agree with Elvis that having a high price will chase a lot of buyers away. Most people will see the high price and not bother making an offer thinking that if the person selling the car is going to come down to a more realistic price they would have started with one to begin with.
You're saying the same thing I said that how much you sell a car for depends on how fast you want to sell it. If you don't care how long it takes to sell it you can ask whatever you want for it but if you want to get rid of it you have to sell it for what most people would think is a decent price. For Elwesso's Fleetwood the best way to figure out what it's worth is to see what other ones in his own area are going for for a while. I agree to agree, except for one thing. Low mileage cars are sort of in a class of their own. When I go through the classifieds of our paper, I always think that the "special interest vehicles" or "luxury cars" sections are not enough, there could be a section for selling "Low mileage minty cars" or something like that. ;) You cannot really expect to get an accurate price for this or any other lo-mi car because the cars in the classifieds are MOSTLY if not ALL high-mileage cars. Like new condition are the key words here, and seriously, some of these cars MUST be seen to be fully appreciated. IMO. Right now, the black book on my car if totalled is only 7500 dollars!! The simple fact that I was offered more than double that is a sign that one could probably go to the classifieds and add 10,000 for a low mileage example of the same car? (as a general rule of thumb for determining possible value)
In reflection, YES I may have been very stupid not accepting that generous offer for my car, but gosh darn it, it grew on me and I love it! LOL! Ralph, I'll give you $7600 AMERICAN CASH for it today! brougham 01-26-04, 09:34 PM I agree to agree, except for one thing. Low mileage cars are sort of in a class of their own. Low milage cars are unique when you're comparing them to ones that have been driven but they're still out there. When you check different sites with cars for sale they come up a lot more ofthen then you'd think and just like every other car the prices for them are all over the place. Mileage also doesn't mean everything- it's not too hard to find a car with normal milage that looks just as good because it was cared for. A lot of low milage cars also get problems because of the lack of use. Things like seals and other parts drying out which can eventually make them need the same major repairs as a car that has high milage. Just because some people are willing to pay a lot of money for something they want doesn't mean that's what it's really worth. You could be trying to sell a low milage Chevette and ask $10,000 for it but is anyone really going to want to pay that much for it? Probably not. I don't know about the Chevette :tongue2: you can keep it, but there were a couple of 1970's Gremlins that supposedly went for over 15,000 U.S. on some internet auction. My cousin told me about this, maybe it was ebay? Gremlins were considered a joke when they came out and I remember being at my dad's Gulf station in the late 1970's and all the mechanics laughed when one came in.
We are talking about Cadillacs here, not junk! But hey, your junk could be someone else's gold mine, so we'd better lay off the Vettes. (Chevette that is) ;)
There don't seem to be many low mi Caddies or anything for that matter out here. I guess where the population is in the east, there logically should be more examples. Not too many people store them because of salt in the winter like my stepdad or Wes's Grandpa.
You are 100 percent about the seals and other gaskets, etc. possibly going dry on stored vehicles. This is why it is important to run them every other month or so to "wet" the seals. An example, back in 1987 I ran into the fellow who bought my stepdads '71 w30 Olds. He apparently was looking at some new Fords that year at the dealership and had a huge puddle of coolant under the car! It broke my heart to see this. He told me that it sits from October until mid April or so! He knew what caused the waterpump seal to get brittle, but with showcars also, this is a common issue. That DOES NOT mean I would not buy that car back! Something like that can easily be fixed as long as one can still get a 455 cu in. waterpump gasket. If I was looking for a low mileage musclecar or ?, I would expect to pay top dollar for one that was taken care of. That is probably why you see many celebrities at the Barret-Jackson Auction, they can afford these niceities. :yup: Ralph, I'll give you $7600 AMERICAN CASH for it today!
Keep going..... :farting: :tisk: brougham 01-27-04, 12:31 AM I remember you saying that before about the Gremlins. I guess anything is collectible eventually.
Once in a while you see a low milage car being advertized in the Auto Trader but not too often. My Cadillac is sitting under it's cover in storage. I haven't seen it since November :crying2: At least it's got some other cars to keep it company :p
What I meant for the seals was for cars that hardly ever get used. Usually when they're just sitting for the winter it's better to just leave them alone then it is to start them and not let them warm up, especially around here where you can't even drive a car around the block without getting it covered in salt. Water pumps will usually start doing that when they start wearing out. There are seals in boat motors that are supposed to have the same problem. I remember you saying that before about the Gremlins. I guess anything is collectible eventually.

Well, outside it's actually -49 with the wind RIGHT NOW!! This is the coldest I can EVER remember! I guess I won't start my car if I can help it. CV boots will just crack when I turn the steering wheel. Sometimes driving in the extreme cold can crack the rad, which is exactly what happened on my old Pontiac! I don't think the coolant froze, but having it warm up in the cold, I think it was the temp contrast that did it.
I figured that was what you meant regarding the seals. That 442 never was driven too much in the summer either because the owner worked in another city and had a house there as well. Do you think you will bother trying to start your Caddy in storage? If it is very cold I wouldn't bother. I might disconnect the battery so there is no drain, which is what my dad did with my car. With his new DTS, he won't bother disconnecting it. (somewhere under the seat) Plus, I told him what someone on this Forum mentioned that the electronics in a Northstar don't like to sit without juice for too long. True or not? I don't care, not my car and still under warrenty. :D brougham 01-27-04, 01:36 PM It was that cold around here a couple weeks ago. It's strange seeing highs that are in the -30s and it's not every day that you get into a car when it's so cold that buttons are starting to stick and you've got frost on the dashboard  The way the thermostat works the rad should be OK but then again I have seen one of those plastic rads cracked before. My trusty old Chrysler has been working great in the cold. If it would only stay clean....
The Caddy is locked up where I can't get to it until the spring. I brought the battery home tho so that it wouldn't freeze or get wrecked over winter. What does the service manual say about in the DTS? In a Maxima we used to have there was a switch by the fuse box that you could turn off while the car was sitting for a while that would turn things like the radio off so the batery would last longer. Maybe there's something like that in the DTS since the battery is annoying to get to? You guys are making me feel good. I gave $13,500 over 3 years ago to a funeral home for mine, - had 52,XXX miles on it and wigwags too! ;) It was that cold around here a couple weeks ago. I have a plastic rad in my 1991?? I know the sides of my 1991 G. Marquis had that.
I was with my stepdad when he took delivery of his DTS 11 months ago in Regina. Anyway, my dad asked the dealer about winter storage and the dealer said "you could disconnect the battery, but you really don't have to. Just run it about every 21 days to keep the systems operational." I clearly remember him saying this because I wanted to know the answer myself. I'm not sure exactly what it said in his owners manual, although I didn't have much time to really go through it. So far, my dad has not bothered and he does open the garage door to run it about 10 mins every few weeks, and hopefully this will keep the electronic Gremlins away. (I must have a thing for Gremlins) :yup: I am a little upset that he did not run the AC in my 1991 when he owned it because I think the freon leaked out and I will need a recharge. $350.00 at Midas or $400 at theCaddy dealership will take care of that.

Funeral home cars would be good IMO. They are never raced (hopefully) :D and never abused, plus they take care of them as there is probably 20 coats of wax on it. LOL. Just a guess, black? ;) Sorry we hijacked your thread Wes, Broughm and I will discuss this privately. elwesso 01-29-04, 07:30 PM No big deal, I dont mind watching it....

These cars aren't easy to find. Especially one as beautiful as yours. As a reference point I had a friend just buy one with 50k. After fixing the few things it needed he probably has around 10k in it and we both thought it was a great bargain. As nice as yours is I wouldn't take a penny less than 15k.

I agree, at LEAST 15,000 for something so beautiful it could be called a "rolling Picasso." :halo: Picasso is the wrong choice of artists for a Fleetwood, Ralphie. I gotta go with Michelangelo or somebody like that. Picasso would've come up with something like the Aztec. :histeric: Picasso is the wrong choice of artists for a Fleetwood, Ralphie. Love her, especially in roles where it would appear she's trying to shed the simpleminded supermodel image. One flic has her as a semi-lesbianish hitman (maybe Gershon was in it too?).

That's a bit much? Maybe if it had 6 K on it. But still! Geez, maybe I'll just start the bidding for mine at $100,000, ok I'll take $70,000! :cookoo:
