Take Maxim and Road and Track, then smash them together. The plug was pulled on MPH on April 4th. So sad!
They're famous for "Backseat Betty", which features models, actresses, porn stars, and other assorted hotties posing in the back seats of cars.

They also did a six-page article in April on my friend's 1992 Q45:

Q45.org got a couple mentions. :)
Nice one on the Impala SS:

Darn...though some of it was kinda strange, I really enjoyed the "no restraint" things they said in reviews of certain vehicles that are true, but no other mag would say them.
C&D is still my favorite, by FAR, though...but I'll miss MPH (and am now glad I didn't renew my subscription, like I was about to).
Wait a minute...where and when was the "pull of the plug" announced?
I miss Brock Yates. They let him go and barely said a word.

They did?! I never noticed that! John Phillips is the best writer no doubt!

How come nobody ever told me about this magazine BEFORE it died, I'd have subscribed.

I still don't see where it died...was it an official announcement or something?

Nope. They just abruptly ceased operations on April 4th. The web site is no longer updated (forum still works) and people were shuffled around or relieved of duty.

Oh...
That's still a shame, even if the other "biggies" like C & D and Motor Trend liked making fun of them. It was sarcastic writing and topics, but that can still be good to read, and a nice change from the crap in other mags at times.

That really sucks. I would have to say that as of late it was my favorite car magazine. Often bought it at the airport and sometimes my wife would pick it up for me if she saw it.
This mag was hilarious, and I would usually laugh out loud 2 or 3 times when reading it. And not too many bikini chicks - like 1-2 pages worth almost like it was a parody. Good enough!
Yes it was refreshing that they had the balls to slam things when appropriate. The major US mags are afraid. You get things like "to sum up, it was an excellent vehicle and will be a candidate for COTY, but gee if they'd only upgrade the plastic on the dash it would be perfect". I wonder if they were suffering on ad revenue because they were criticizing the advertisers' cars?
I remember one article... top 10 cars that are overdue to be out of production: Acura NSX, Toyota Land Cruiser, etc. Brilliant!
Recently it was like $2 an issue and I was thinking of subscribing for around $8 per year. Anyway thanks for the heads up. I lament that it's gone. Hope someone else steps up.
