My friend's sister has a 1982 Corvette with Crossfire Injection. He was wondering if the Digital Fuel Injection in my 1983 Coupe deVille was the same system. I really don't know, I know it's the same principle, two fuel injectors in a throttle body but beyond that I'm at a loss. If someone could explain the similarities/differences between the Corvette and Cadillac systems you'd put both of our curiosities to rest.

Heh...off topic, but I love your sig.
Sorry I have no good information :alchi:

I'm not too sure either, but I do know that the Corvette cross-fire was a very crappy design, and poor performer!

The Cadillac "digital fuel injection" systems and the Crossfire systems were similar. Both were TBI systems. Throttle body injection means the injectors were mounted at the throttle body above the throttle blades. This gives the advantage of digital control of the fuel injectors without putting a fuel injector in each port. It also means that the intake manifold was "wet" meaning it carries air and fuel to the intake port in the head. A "dry" intake manifold is on a port fuel injected engine where the fuel injector is directly at the intake port and there is one injector for each cylinder.
Actually....the Crossfire system worked reasonably well for that day and age. Looking back on it the Crossfire system seems relatively archaic compared to systems of today and is certainly inferior in terms of performance and fuel control compared to a sequential port fuel injection system of today but compared to a carburetor that it replaced it ran great and made more power due to the larger (dual) throttle bodies and slightly tuned intake manifold.
So....the systems are similar in that both are TBI, both use digital microprocessors for control (ground breaking technology in that day and age), both have wet intake designs and both use similar software and fuel/spark control strategy in the PCM. They are different in that the Cadillac systems had a single throttle body on a single or dual level manifold and the Corvette Crossfire system had two separate throttle bodies for more flow and some tuning in the intake manifold for more power.

Thanks chevelle. That's what I suspected but couldn't be sure.
ohh god not a crossfire-injection, always thought those were a decent idea, but a few design flaws killed them (IE EGR location causing warping) and so on...
