If you had 45-55k to spend on a car right now. What would you buy? And you cant spend 20k and keep the rest.

if i had 45k to spend, i would try to find a very nice 59 coupe deVille. either that or a 96 FW, drop in a stroker LT and a 6 speed. I always wanted a 700hp 6-speed cadillac! :D

Elvis

a loaded DeVille, black on black, chrome stock rims.

If you increase that amount to $75,000 then we're talking S430.

This is my list of what I would have in my garage if I had the money and space. Some are well under your price range so I'd put after market options on them as needed to spend the money. They are not in any particular order:
1. Infiniti FX45
2. Jaguar X-Type
3. Infiniti G35 (not sure coupe or sedan)
4. Mustang SVT Cobra convertible
5. Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
6. 50th Anniversary Corvette

That new Audi S4 V8 that will be out this fall, or maybe the new CTS Vseries - they are both high on my list... and if that mythical little Lexus IS430 ever makes an appearance, I am going to have a tiny little 4 door in my garage with a big honkin V8 under the hood IMMEDIATELY... those are definitely my top 3, all others are far down the list frm them! And if they make the new Pontiac GTO in a 4 door, it would be on my list as well...

But as far as RIGHT NOW goes, The Audi A6 4.2 is pretty nice and would be on my list as would a used M5, an E500, a Lexus GS430 or a Q45...

I know whatever I pick, it's gonna be an all-wheel-drive or rear-wheel-drive V8 4 door, thats definitely my next car.

Hi Spike. Welcome aboard!

I'd take an '03 STS and forget about everything for the next 6 years...

Other cars I'd consider?

'02 Cadillac Eldorado
Lexus GS430
Lexus ES300
Lincoln LS8
Corvette Z06
Maybe some Mercedes - don't know which...

03-27-03, 09:03 AM
I'd have a hard time getting a E500 after seeing the E55 AMG. I tend to get the "full-boat" model or nothing. I really hate getting a "base" model anything.

MY bad! I read through the lists fast, and saw some lexus and jaguars, and didnt read which models. And yes KC, if you would like, you can consider that a brain fart ;)

Actually, I was asked the same question yesterday, and said beyond a doubt I would take a new cadillac STS. Other ones i though of include a BMW 5 series, lexus ES300, or a USED 01 or 02 BMW 750iL

You've got to wonder what Cadillac is thinking....I mean the STS put them back on the map in the '90s and is one of their most popular models! It must be time for them to shoot theirselves in the foot again.....They seem to do it about every ten years!

Brett
03-27-03, 12:10 PM
i dont know how popular it is, but it definitely was their highest-tech sedan(magnetic-ride control, HID's)..it seems weird they would kill it instead of the SLS, i know there will be a new one in 18 months, but still a weird choice

The question was "what would you buy?" that didn't HAVE to be Cadillacs.
As for the Seville being one of their most popular models, think again dude. The Seville sales are nowhere near the other models.
The only thing it outsells is the trucks.

15k on an STS, 15k on a 95 M3, 10k on a Lexus GS300 5k on a crotch rocket, and 10k for repairs/maintenance to the cars.

If I had to just get one...used M5.

If you ask me on a Cadillac enthusiasts web site what I would buy I think of Cadillacs or Cadillacs to me there really isn't another car that I would think of seriously. And my position on imports is well documented!

All this talk of BMW's. My aunt has a 1991 735i with the inline 6 rated at 208 hp. The car rides rough, the seats are harder than when I see Pamela Anderson, The engine leaks everything except grape juice, and every two minutes it bongs from somewhere and I keep thinking "my Fries must be ready." I am not impresed with BMW's, their quality is overrated and you are paying for the NAME! C'mon guys make a choice, support your domestic economy!

I made a choice based off of my experience with cars, and you can make a choice based off of yours ( = I have never had any issues with BMW's, and neither have any of the people that I have spoken to with them. I am not saying they are better then the Caddy in any way, I just have never had anything against them, and a BMW M5 is the top of my list for "realistic dream car".

I was just offered 18,000 on Saturday for my minty Fleetwood. I don't know if I will sell because if I get into an accident, I might only get 10,000 from the government insurance, they rip you off. So I am scared to drive it. There are not many decent new cars in Canada for 18000 dollars. I don't want a Neon, or a Korean car like Hyndai. And God help me, I am CONSIDERING an Acura 1.7 EL. Maybe I'll just keep it. I might never forgive myself if I sell it, plus my dad will kick my ass! Keep me straight guys!

But really, a Subaru WRX, driving school, and all the go-fast tuning I can get.

RIGHT NOW... as in the mood im in TODAY, it would be...

HANDS DOWN 2003 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR fully loaded... Top of my list right now... and then...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

2002 Escalade (about 35k) with 20K in Audio and appearance modifications.

2004 BMW M3.

2004 CTS-V

2001 BMW 750iL.

2003 Jaguar S-Type R (though Id probably get bored of this one pretty quick).

2000 Mercedes Benz SL 600.

That short list shows why its so dumb to spend 80k on anything brand new (or 100 plus in the case of the Mercedes and BMW), when depreciation can put so many cars within the reach of the 55k price bracket within less than 4 years. The Navi is only there because the 03 is the most recent change and before that it was actually quite a Turd interior-wise and noise-wise. But give it two years, itll be 28-30k.

$45-55,000?

Easily the best way to spend that money in terms of performance and versatility:

2005 CTS-V with the new performance options
-Rear performance shocks (hopefully it cures some of that wheel hop)
-Cross-drilled rotors
-new style wheels
-carbon fibre engine cover(okay, not really a performance upgrade, but if you get everything else, you might as well go all the way...)

Vettes are nice, but the V is more of an all-around car.

CTS-V's are $50-51k MSRP, one with the performance options should stay in the $55k range. :)

i'd wait fot the new sts to come out and get the RWD NorthStar option, or a vette. the cts-v is nice too. i would never get a 3 or 5 series bmw though, feels a bit ricy and the 745's interior isn't what it should be.

My biggest problem with BMW is not the quality of their cars, that is not worth questioning, especially in their engines, but rather the fact that BMW has no real heritage. They started out making airplane engines, then motorcycles, then cars. Other than the "2002" no one really looks back at any particularly special BMW like for example the 50's CLASSIC Mercedes original SL. Older Mercedes in general just have a perfect staunch look to them, be they from the 50's, 60's, 70's or 80's. THAT is why if I go german again, it will be Mercedes next time. As far as what BMW is good at, they are designed to be driven, and to that end I enjoy the heck out of mine all the time. That car can be pushed and is always asking for more, once again though, I would NOT buy one new.

all these people are talkiin about E55 or the M3 and shit like that, to me, any mind you this is my opinion, i think those cars are a big waste, a car dosnt need to be fast to me, but power is a big thing. my dts does 0-60 in liek 7.2 seconds which isnt fast by any means compared to todays cars, but its a very powerful luxury car. I think as long as a car has power and luxury, im straight.

Well i know that a few years back Tim Allen had GM modify a special DTS for him, they were also working on the STSi and re-badged Allen's DTS accordingly. Do a google search for Tim Allen's DTSi, its bound to pop up.

i'm not talking about build quality. i dont like the interiors, i'm just against 6 cylinder engines and small cars unless it's a "true" sporst car. in fact that's my biggest problem with the cts-v, but an LS6 would probably make a supra seem cool :rolleyes2
