Hey all,

I have a 92 deville and am having a problem which I think is trans related but wanted to get some input. Usually when the car is cold I will be drving and I will release the gas but the trans doesnt disengage and keeps riding and if I hit the brakes it disengages or if no ones in front of me i will let her keep going and after 30-50 feet she disenages and begins to coast. No codes and I checked for a binding throttle cable but it seems fine. I was thinking about the vcc but not sure if that wat controls the trans to disengage when u relese the throttle. It happened once or twice b4, but now it happens pretty much every morning now. Thanks for yalls input.

As far as I remember the tranny does not lock up until the engine is warmed up. It will unlock any time you apply brakes. When the engine is cold the idle is high (some 900-1100). When you release gas pedal the idle does not go down to 550-600 because the engine is still cold and the ECM commands the ISC motor to keep the RPM at higher level. It may cause what you describe.

thanks for tha input. i did think it was the ics at first but it doesnt seem to be a fuel issue. its like it get stuck at where ever i was driving like a stiky throttle cable. i will be driving and let off the gas and it never drops rpms(sometimes goes up a hundred or 2) and keeps going then all of a sudden its like it drops into neutral and goes to coasting. which when the engine is cold seems to be a little on the higher side. and when you say engine is warmed up are you speaking of coolant temp? and this happens with a warm or cold engine but more when its cold. (70* outside and run 4 about 5 minutes b4 moving the car) what about a tweaked out cruise servo?

Hmm...first check codes. Secondly the ATF level, smell, color. I would disconnect the servo for a while as well.
The coolant temperature is what you see on the DIC, but ATF should be close to the coolant too. BTW, the best way to warm an engine up is driving as soon as you started it. It also will reduce ill effects of row fuel on the cat.

no codes. i will check the trans fluid 2day. she seems to shift at about 2100 rpms. which seems normal. also is it the vcc or tcc that controls the trans as far as it disengaging when u release the throttle?

fluid was lil low so i filled her up. hasnt happened yet so we will see if that was it.

Yep, it could be the problem. Find the leak.

ya havent been able to reproduce the prob yet. couldnt find a leak anywhere. but my oil pan gasket is leaking and the trans is covered with oil and I cant tell if any trans fluid is comming from the trans pan gasket. will have to keep my i on it. say u ever change the oil pan gasket on the 4.9? seems simple fsm says its an easy task but cant find much on the forums about it.

As far as I know removing the oil pan is not easy. The known leaking problem area is the oil filter adapter. Pay atttention to multiple hose connections for ATF cooling lines. They do leak.
