But for eight hundred bucks it might almost be worth having as a parts car or a backup powerplant/transmission. Shoot, it's tough to buy an ENGINE for that money!

Besides, almost any Cat has some new parts in it. This is especially true if the car happens to run and drive at the moment you check it out.

I often see Cateras selling for between $2K and $4K. But I do not routinely see them south of $1K, running.

I have a friend who bought a 98 Catera for $500.00, it was just unfortunate that it was stolen from his street parking. Anyway, the car just needed a Mass Airflow sensor to run.

Paid $300 for a '98 3 months ago.

The car was in nice shape with 142k miles. Only bad thing was a slipping transmission and valve cover gaskets.

Replaced gaskets ($50 at auto parts store), pulled out the tranny and had a friend rebuild it for free(he owed me a favour).

My wife drove it for 2 weeks than I sold it.

Try dealer auctions, that $800 might seam like a fortune.:thumbsup:

Had no clue when i started this thread that it would become a battle to the bottom, a contest to cite the lowest cost Catera out there.
