It's not common but some have been reported. Is you car still under warranty? IANNOZZI 04-28-06, 09:27 PM Car is under warrently to May 15--my concern is--should I even bother bring it up to the dealer--they are so tight with that stuff--and here it is limited only to the side of the radio dial--they will surely say it is wear and tear--but that is crap--I mean you baby your car --keep it prestine only to have this crap start pealing--there and on my inside door handle--what do you think should I even try? Ryan's '05-V 04-28-06, 09:36 PM I have had my NAV unit replaced twice already due to the area at the bottom of the screen peeling away.
I would call the service department and get any and all of your last items addressed before your warranty ends. Take it in.
If this dealer doesn't do it go elsewhere because this is your last totally free trip to the delear. After the warranty GM can cover some of the repairs at their discretion but cosmetic items like this are not covered at all.
Good luck, you have nothing to lose. Kaliwest84 04-28-06, 09:56 PM i had the buttons replaced.. because of the white paint fading...but if its under warranty they will replace it for free RobertCTS 04-29-06, 06:27 AM If I were you I would make a lot of noise:rant2:
If not it's coming out of your pocket. Some times :rant2: works. BCCADILLAC 05-04-06, 08:04 AM Please don't buy into the "if you make noise you get it all" mentality. All warranties are for a defect in workmanship or materials. that would be a defect and it's under warranty.
As a service manager I don't think up ways to wiggle out of providing warranty, it's not my money, I am there for the customer and the factory.
please just be up front and normal to your service rep and they will be the same with you.
Break the rear end, swap the tires back to the factory ones and take out the NOS bottle. Expect the same treatment.

Sorry Chris but I disagree with you. What you say should be true but you know very well some service departments can be real a$$holes and argumentive. After buying 50 new cars I know at times you have to get in someones face to get things done. This is very true for women too as they are easy to back down. Nice in theory Chris but I think most of us have had some encounters with their service department. The exception would be a young driver and his first car. But in time it will come. Junkman 05-04-06, 12:54 PM If you go into the dealership with a negative attitude, then your experience might be less than satisfying. Remember, the people in the dealership are human also and want to be treated with the same respect that you expect of them. True, there are some dealerships that will try to get out of doing a warranty repair if they feel that it might not be reimbursed by the factory, but usually they get the factory rep to give it a thumbs up or down first. There is no reason that any dealership wants to deliberately annoy a customer. Defects in appearance items are usually replaced within the first year of the vehicles life. Wear and tear is a judgement call. If the vehicle is well cared for, then they will usually replace it. If the car is a rat, then they will call it normal wear. I own a Mercedes and have had the door panels replaced twice under warranty since the leather shrunk. The replacements are no better than the originals, and now, the replacement has shrunk, but the car is out of warranty. No way will they replace it even though it is a known defect. Once out of warranty with a Mercedes, even if it is one day, you are on you own. Cadillac has a much better reputation with their customers than Mercedes as a result. Caddy Man 05-04-06, 02:31 PM It seems to be a very common problem, so once out of warraanty they wont fix it??/ Ihave had to bring my car in about 3 times for chipped buttons in about 2 years. Seems kinda like a d*ck move to leave the customer on thier own once warranty is up for an issue that A LOT of peopel have and even peopel who baby thier cars like me have. kali_cts03 05-04-06, 07:56 PM As long as you go back within 12 months of when they fixed it, and is bad again, they should fix it again since they have the 12 month / 12,000 mile warranty on any service they do to your car!!!
Like my sunroof, I had it fixed last month. I will be running out of warranty soon (definatly before 12,000 miles or 12 months), but if it goes bad withing the next 12,000 miles or 12 months they will fix it at no charge (per my service rep.)
Same with my rear dif. - if that goes bad within 12,000 miles or 12 month they will be doing that for free as well!!! I find this interesting because with Ford Motor products, that only applies to owner paid services. If it is fixed under the factory warranty the part is only guaranteed for the rest of the warranty period. This is one reason that I always insisted that they repair something as soon as I noticed it, not "let it go to the next time it is in for routine service such as a oil change". The dealer never liked my leaving the car for a small warranty repair, but I didn't care about what was easiest for them, but what was best for myself. More than once, I would go to the parts department and order the part myself and when I was notified that the part was in, then I would go to service and ask them to repair it. I got the standard reply "we will have to order the parts" and then I would tell them that the parts were already in stock. I then got the sour grapes look, but got my car fixed in a timely manner. It is great when you already know the ropes of how the service department operates. :stirpot: kali_cts03 05-04-06, 08:59 PM I find this interesting because with Ford Motor products, that only applies to owner paid services.
