General Z: "Some spy shots I took of a Cadillac, I think"

"These were taken near GM's Milford Proving Grounds.
Looks like a Cadillac to me. Note the grille on the one shot."

They actually put tips on the tailpipes; maybe this time around they'll leave them off the V and put them just on ours ;)

And of course they chose the "best" color for their mule: light platinum rules!

Nice. I just hope those aren't going to be the tail lights. They look like a Nissan Altima.

Looks good so far! Some of the differences I quickly noticed...

1. All new door handle design
2. No more crease line along the doors/fenders
3. Riding on what appears to be 2006 model 17" rims
4. Steeper rake on rear window (proving rumors true)
5. Chrome or stainless exhaust tips (noticed first by SoCadillac)
6. Lower mounted rear side marker lights
7. Rear reflectors (or fogs?) separate from tail lights, lower on bumper

Good?!?!? Looks like crap! I fear GM will try to "improve" the design and miss the mark... how many of us like our CTS because it DOESN'T look like anything on the road?.... Now they are going to make it look like everything else... round and bland.... If they want to improve they could get some nicer interior on our design, upgrade the tail lights to led, more power and perhaps stramline the front lamps and get rid of that ugly gray... But again this is just my opinion...

I wouldn't take a stance on if it's bland or not until we see the whole thing. ;) The doors of the current CTS aren't anything special to look at either. lol

I'm glad they upgraded the door handles and killed off the body molding strip.

Looks like LED's on the rear, I like that.

To put a positive spin on this, imagine if we can apply some of the goodies this one will have, to the rides we currently have.

Have to see it in person. I didn't like our CTS when I first saw one, then it grows on you. :)

If you go to the Camaro site and see the picture taken at the driver’s side the headrest is funky and does not look as though it tilts forward. I hope we do not lose that feature as I use it.

I don't see anything I like. The door handles suck and the grill is not impressive. Those tail lights have to be a mock-up. Round would not fit the car. The edgy design seems to be gone. My next car may have to be a STS.

Agree 100%... IF the edgy design is gone... I will go for the STS-V....

The 469HP SC version stickers at $77,000!!! Dubbed Stealth has one on order.

Let's not rush to judgment. They got this one covered up pretty well.

But you can see the ugly door handles and the absence of the edgy creases!
I remember when Ford came out with the Taurus. It was a bit radical but over the years Ford has destroyed its looks and it looks so generic today. I imagine Cadillac will do the same thing, only quicker.

It's been Lutzed! He took the edges off the STS just before production and the car is blander for it. They took the edges off the Escalade and it looks like a Chevy Tahoe. What was started with the Evoq show car is now being rounded down into obscurity.

I have to agree with some of the other mbrs, if the edgy design is gone, it's either the STS or a totally different brand of car... BMW 5 series, Audi A6 or M45...

damn it, if I WANTED and acura TL i would have BOUGHT an acura TL.

anyone else noice ho the acura basically steals all its "refinments" right out of the cadillac line?

I like the door handles, but damn, you guys are right. Where's the edginess? :rant2: I remember reading somewhere (maybe edmunds.com) that the 2nd gen CTS would have less offensive/smoother curves.

Seeing this actually makes my life easier. I have the option of giving my car back after three years and was considering upgrading to the new generation. Not anymore, now I can mod the hell out of my '05 because I will drive it until it dies! No need to have all the original parts stored somewhere to put back on in two years.

It is disappointing that the uniqueness has disappeared. I like the edgy stand out design of the CTS, smoothing it up just makes it generic looking.

if the edge is gone I'm feeling Japanese or Audi. :want:
But I'll keep my V.:worship:

the sides of the car look like they are right out of an STS. Our CTS are not bad cars, I will probably drive mine until it dies. Even when the new models come out, our cars will still look badass, maybe less features but they wont look old or crappy. Kinda of like how the 95-97 STS's still look really nice to me at least.

I love this stuff...it like going a blind date with some teasing thrown in! When they unveil the final model will be in shock from approval or disapproval? Who knows, but during the interim it is fun practicing wild speculation on our part...stay tuned.

But assuming it is much more sleek, it will certainly lose its uniqueness. But is that a bad thing? Really, if the car drives better, gets better mileage, has more power and more amenities...is the loss of its uniqueness really gonna be a bad thing?

I think the CTS is due for its dramatic changes, but we will have too see when the final '08 is here. Its like how the cadillac concept Evoq resembled the XLR http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z155/Cadillac_Evoq/default.aspx
and the cadillac concept Vizon similiars the SRX http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z2856/Cadillac_Vizon/default.aspx

so maybe they will make the new CTS more like the Imaj, hmmmm

I think I'll keep my '05. The profile of the car isn't all that different, which is good. But I see no character lines across the flanks except the Saturn-esque one low on the body, that sweeps upward a bit toward the tail. I hope they're planning a body side moulding of somekind. This prototype looks like a ding-magnet.
I remember back in late 2000, early 2001, when spy shots of the current CTS started to surface. I fell in love with it immediately, even through the camo. I ordered one as soon as my dealer had the necessary info, even before I saw one in the "metal". Now, we can't really tell what the front and rear of this new one is going to be. Not yet. But there doesn't seem to much in between.

THANK YOU! This is exactly what's happening! Just look at the sales of the STS. They're mediocre at best. They're even planning a facelift for '07, just two years in to the model run (How's that for an admission of guilt). The last time I read the Automotive News, there was a 130-odd day supply of STS's on dealer lots around the country. The CTS, now Cadillacs oldest design, is still selling very well with little or no incentive on it. And a 70 day supply. There have been virtually no changes to it over 6 model years. Even the much reviled interior has not dimmed its success. There's been a lot of talk about ousting Rick Waggoner from the CEO spot at GM. If this happens, he should take Mr. Lutz with him. Bob Lutz is a great guy with a lot of experience, yes. But his job was to "free-up" the designers at GM. Not dictate to them.

I agree that it does appear, in many ways, that the new CTS has been "Lutzitized."
