i'm dealing with this right now. what model do you have?

base 03 or luxury sport? we'll go from there...

if its a sport model with the HID dont you need new shocks to ? kinda of a waste of money IMO then

TripleOught

not necessarily.

if it's a base or sport with the non-load leveling all you need is a set of eibachs to lower it about 1.2 inches. you can get a set for around 200-240.

if it's load leveling like mine-you need to use either the base model cts shocks or buy a set of v-shocks (fe4). you should be able to get a used set for around 100 bucks by doing some leg work. by using the v shocks, you inherently get a stiffer ride already. now, with some easy spacer modifications to the top of the v-shocks, all you need to do is put the eibachs on.

200 eibachs+100 v-shocks+free spacers=300 (plus possible shipping). still not bad if you have the luxury sport. if you have the base, just the 200 for eibachs.

(by the way, i'm just regurgitating things i recently learned from Ody since i'm looking to do this mod as soon as i can)...

I think TripleOught is givin' the smartest way to do this. If you used the base CTS shocks, I would think you'd have really mismatched spring rates.
For us load-levelers, I think the smart way is to go FE4.

It might even be cheaper to get a set of V shocks then base shocks. The V owners switch shocks alot more often the base model owners. And they sell the OEM's for cheap. Trying to get a set of base shocks might require buying them brand new.

Actually, if you have the FE3 (sport shocks with self leveling Nivomats) suspension, you can get the non-leveling FE2 sport shocks, rather than the base FE1 shocks. They come with the PDX sport package, while the 1SC Lux-sport package had Xenon HIDs and Nivomats (FE3s). You'll still have matched (with the fronts) damping, but not the leveling. They will drop more than a set of CTS-V FE4's with the WildWhl mod, though.

Personally, since the Eibachs are nearly the same rate as the V springs, I put the FE4's on all around, figuring they're an exact match.

To keep the front from dropping the full 1.2", you'll need to install a 5mm or 6mm shim under the front springs. WildWhl made several sets of the donut shaped shims for me to try. I still have two sets left for anyone interested in stopping at 1" drop with the Eibachs.

With this setup, the car doesn't look slammed at all. It simply looks 'right'. It corners and handles much better too. Add CTS-V or Eibach sways and you've got a matched and balanced suspension setup.

Damn, if I had the extra money I would get them springs as well, and with the v-shocks would lower my CTS!!! Maybe with time, but I would like to make the gap a little bit less between the wheel and the fender.... :bigroll:

I want them now :want: but will have to wait a bit to do if I decide to go that route!!! :alchi::want:

I'm gonna set this mod out. I haven't been bitten by the mod bug on this.
I have the 245x45x18" wheels. The gap is maybe a tad much but not enough to worry me. And I don't want to compromise my ride anymore than it is. But I do agree some of the lowered cars look better. I haven't been bitten yet, I haven't been bitten:crybaby:

hpaim, how did you get the eibachs for 125???? did you submit an offer for 125 through ebay? i was debating sending an offer but thought 175 would even be pushing it.

robert, the time to act is probably now. i think lund has a supply of eibachs left which you can get for almost 100 off retail. caddy man and i are going to do the fe4 v shocks, eibachs, and v sways. that should make the fender gap "right" as Ody says. i just need to get with WildWhl on the shims and shock spacers. i think i'm going to go 5mm not 6, since i like a taaaad bit higher in the back.

If I were to do it I would want to stick with the Nivomats. I haven't followed this closely. Can you lower and still maintain Nivomats? I know normally the Nivomats will want to raise the rear end because you lowered it.

sorry, i was referring to luvmycaddy03.

robert, as i understand the fe4 (v shocks) and fg2 (sport shocks) are also nivomats...so i'll assume you are talking about doing the mod on the lux sport stock load levelers (fe3)?

Ody can correct me, but i don't think that has been done yet. but, it seems slightly counter intuitive if you're looking for a tighter ride not to use the fe4 v shocks, especially if you nab them at 100 for a set. just having those tightens it up, then with the eibachs you've got yourself a nice little go cart to whip around turns with. plus, i think you already have the v sway, so you'll be looking good.

case in point: not sure about lowering the fe3 shocks. Ody may have more insight if he's tried it...but i don't think he has unless i would already have i done.

hpaim,

Great deal on the springs!!! Lund is about 10 min. from my house been trying to get them to return my calls for the same item plus Eibach sways.

To add to this thread I am going to lower/stiffen as follows.

I have an '05 with the 1SC pkg w/Nivomats:

Replace FE3=Nivomats(load-levelers) with FE2's(thanks Ody)
GM p/n 25770612 which is the correct p/n confirmed by 3 dealers. $190.39 for both shipped form GMPD.

Was undecided between Hotchkiss or Eibach. Choosing Eibach, because should retain a more balanced ride. I'm looking for better balance between perfomance and ride. Don't want to loose to much Cadi cruising feel.

Will install Eibach sways also keep everything matched.

Last install front strut brace p/n 15245609 GMPD $83.01 shipped.

The toughest part is finding an installer that's fair and does quality work. I have had quotes form 3 to 12 hours form $75 - $90 and hour. I can't seem to get the dealers to return the calls around here: Lund, Legends. Checked a couple performance places they are almost as bad as the dealers. I did find one shop that used to be Eibach distributor but no longer sells parts but still does the work.

Anyone know of a fair/reliable suspension shop in the North Phoenix area let me know.

Have ordered the parts, Should all arrive next week for install.

This is phase I, next will be CAI and exhaust, Ph. II.

My .02!

looks like the stock v shocks...fe4. which, in my opinion is a better idea that going with the fe2's. 100 is really reasonable...

CC, If I was 10 minutes from Lund I think I would be flat broke and just living out of my CTS doing every mod that they could offer...When I first got my CTS I was tempted to drive out to AZ just to get those headers...Hey man, you'll be o.k with the Eibachs..Have had mine in for about 2 year now...

are the fe4 v shocks and sways a must? will it not work with just a spring replacement or is that just for the enhanced ride..p.s I only have 18 inch rims so i could go 1.2 in the back easy the front is questionable?
sorry Im new to all this hope I dont sound like an idiot :alchi:

TripleOught

you don't sound like an idiot at all, believe me i was int he same place you were before i started asking questions.

the V-sway bars are not necessary and have zero impact on lowering the cts. they are merely a cheap mod that is direct bolt on from our v brethren. a sway bar's fuction is to reduce body roll while cornering, so many people add a sway bar when they lower it to really reduce body roll and stiffen the cornering.

now, to the shocks-
if you have a luxury sport version with the load leveling shocks (referred to as fe3), you must replace the shocks before lowering. thats the catch 22 to our suspensions. now, you have 2 popular options to really choose from. you can go with the stock non-load leveling cts shocks(fe2) or the v shocks (fe4). the only reason people go with the v shocks are because they are thought to be "more performance based."

if you buy the stock cts shocks, you're done. just add the springs.
if you buy the v shocks, you need to add a few readily available spacers tot he top of the shock before you install it. another reason why people go with the V (fe4) shocks is because they are easily available because numerous V members go to the upgraded fg2 (1 better than fe4) and are willing to dump their fe4's cheap.

whew...totally confused?
you should be more than adequate with 1.2 on front and back...although if you use V shocks, it will be roughly a 1" drop.

___EDIT___
ok, you don't HAVE to replace the shocks if you have load-leveling (fe3), but you need to modify the components of the fe3 with components from the v-shocks, so if buy the v-shocks, you might as well just use the v-shocks and not modify the fe3 load levelers. or like i said use the stock cts shocks (fe2), no modification.

KY,

If it is Rich Dale he was the shmuck that was supposed to call me back last Friday, I called directly to Lund, was passed around to 3 different people, until I got to him, he said he thought he had only 1 or 2 sets left, and would call me back.

He never did! :want: I even offered him $150 and said I stop by to pick them up.

And no, I have not received a reply back on my e-bay bid, I also sent an email and have not received a reply back. Rich isn't the only one at Lund not to call me back or reply to an email, I asked for the same info from a Mike Tenant and he didn't respond back either.

goodluck...they don't seem to be answering that either.

ok so heres the deal:

we need to organize everyone who wants to purchase a set of eibachs and set a reasonable price. say, 150 or so. then, we need to contact Lund OR another supplier and ask if they are willing to sell the springs for that price, and negotiate as fit.

i think everyone is so spread out we're more likely to get a better deal if we group up and directly contact a vendor.

i will make a seperate thread right now and start a list.
