I think I managed to get the valve cover gaskets to stop leaking but while changing the plugs and wires I may have mixed up some distributer connections. Can anybody give me a diagram or discription of plug wire positions?

Not sure;

Does this help?

It does indeed help, thanks guardian. I had them wrong. Now all I need is someone with really skinny long arms to reach back there and put them right. The wife says not her, too dirty. Another Saturday morning used up mechanicing instead of fishing.

It does indeed help, thanks guardian . . . . . . . .

Always happy to be of service.

Even the blind chipmunk (that would be me) finds an acorn occasionally.

Regret unable to assist with wife.:)

Hope restoration of correct firing order gets you going.:getaway:

I am running but not well. I started the project to fix a sporadic miss caused, I thought, by oil in the spark plug wells and old plugs and wires. The oil is gone, the plugs and wires are new and I still have the sporadic miss. My next guess is a tired distributer. Has anybody had a similar problem? Should a diagnostic hookup be able to pick up/ pin point the problem? I'm not opposed to seeking porfessional help.

JMHO:

I for certain support the first portion of your idea, to go for a diagnostic hookup and read the codes, if any.

But, again JMHO, I think it is early to obtain "professional" help. Just take it in to Autozone, etc., any place where they will read the codes for you gratis.

Free is cheap. And once you have the codes, if any, you will have a major leg up on a DIY fix.

Good luck!! :thumbsup:
