View Full Version : Likely timetable for 2008 CTS? The redesigned 2007 Toyota Camry was introduced in January 2006 at the Detroit Auto Show, hit dealer showrooms in March 2006, inventory build-up and heavy advertising promotion commenced in early April 2006.
Will the 2008 Cadillac CTS follow a similar timetable in 2007? Hope so, cuz I can't wait no longer!

My guess would be September 2007..but it is a guess. Caddy Man 04-24-06, 11:30 AM typically cars come out the summer before thier model year. For example, the new S class is already available but is a 2007 model. The XLR I started seeing the summer of 2003. The first CTS had very early build date which seems uncommon. The first of the cars Ive seen are January of 2002 build dates as a 2003 model, which was VERY early. Since testing is already going on of the new CTS, I expect we will see a production model of it at next years Detroit Auto Show and it should be available for sale next summer as a 2008 model. September 2007 is late for a 2008 model.

The only requirement for listing a car as certain year's model, is that it has to start production no earlier than 1 January of the prior year. So in the example of the current CTS, it went on sale on 1 January 2002 as a 2003 model.
But there's no set intro schedule like there used to be years ago. Manufacturers used to start producing the next year's cars around July for sale in the early fall. That's partially why, even today, automakers have shutdown periods in the summer. However now they want to get the new cars out as fast as possible, which is why the Solstice came out last September, and Sky came out this March. As soon as the next-gen CTS is ready, it will hit the market no matter when that is. chazman 04-24-06, 12:24 PM You'll see the CTS concept at the NAIAS next year. Probably be able to buy one by next summer. Caddy Man 04-24-06, 04:03 PM You'll see the CTS concept at the NAIAS next year. Probably be able to buy one by next summer.
I feel we will acutally see a production model. concepts are what they think the car will look like, the direction they want the design to go like the Camaro concept that debuted this year, I mean who knows what the final design will look like on that, or if its even going to be built, but a production model is one that is ready for production. For example, 2006 NAIAS, they had the Lexus LS 460, which you could not sit in and was on a roating pedastel, but was the acutal complete car that was going to be sold, its just not out yet. If they are already testing the CTS, Im sure in 7 months they will have the production model ready and then like you said summer of 2007 have models out for sale.
About the CTS, I find it interesting any car website you go to where you search something for the cadillac CTS they almost always list '2002' as the first year. Kind of intersting since the CTS has a VERY early release date. I think TripleOughts car has a December 2001 build date, thats the earliest Ive ever seen. I heard since Matrix Reloaded came out, they kind of had to speed of production of the car for use in the movie. AznPrydeRegalRyde 04-24-06, 04:28 PM I think the next CTS will be released somewhere between Sept. 3 and Sept 4 , 2007. Most likely before lunch.
How many threads of the next CTS are there? Theres enoough threads of the new spy shots, not counting the threads guessing when it'll show up.
I say, we enjoy driving the present CTS, the car that marked a huge change at GM/Cadillac, and be a little patient and just wait until the next CTS actually comes out. caddydr 04-24-06, 08:39 PM I think the next CTS will be released somewhere between Sept. 3 and Sept 4 , 2007. Tuff to be patient for those of us who are delaying purchasing a CTS in anticipation of a new body and interior. markhamdons 04-26-06, 11:10 PM Tuff to be patient for those of us who are delaying purchasing a CTS in anticipation of a new body and interior.
I'm in the same boat. I have a lease terminating in May 2007 and am really excited about the 2008. I think it will be a knock-out.
Now, my thoughts and hopes for launch are spring of 2007. The reasons are as follows.
Arguably, the CTS is Cadillac's most important vehicle. It is (will be) for Cadillac what the 3-series is to BMW. Its carries the flag for design themes and product direction, it sells in volumes and sets the stage for specialty vehicles like V-Series, XLR, etc. It is to do all of this and most importantly in these sensitive times, it is not a truck, which has been typically a strength for GM (and therefore their achilles heel).
Short of what they are doing in Saturn, one might say that the CTS is GM's most important vehicle, and counters the effects of sagging divisions like Pontiac and Buick. After all, people and the press believe that GM will not survive and that they can't design and develop new and exciting product, and that it is not worth it.
So, let's look at there actions thus far. They teased us with the 60 minutes episode/debut. Now spy photos are all over the place of a platform/vehicle that , by the looks of it, is nearly complete and detailed. The rumour is that the interior will debut in the SRX (a vehicle that is not selling near as well as it should be). What good is it to wait for 15 months or more.
Some will argue that the current gen CTS is selling very well. That is true for spring to date 2006. But now everybody knows what is coming down the pipe, and approximately when it could be here. Watch CTS sales start to sag and incentives being heaped on.
But GM will not go to incentives. It is counter to there current pricing practices or at least strategies. Further, incentives do not help ( other than the buyer). Incentives cannibalize demand in the future, and erode current profits. Maybe they recover additional monies for tooling retirement, but as a 5 year old vehicle, that tooling is fully paid for and recovered. GM can't afford incentives, not in this climate.
Further...concepts are now pre-production models. Prototypes are design exercises. The Camaro is a proto. The CTS will come out in Detroit as a concept at worst, if not a final production release. Just like the GM-900 SUV platform, which by the way was 6 months ahead of schedule. And brought to market early for pretty much all of the same reasons.
Here is hoping.... | |
