what do you guys think? davesdeville 04-23-06, 10:30 PM I can't tell a difference, but then again I've never bothered to look at one of those before. I painted my cell case to (almost) match my Eldorado a few weeks ago, I just had to mask the screen and spray (5 coats to cover the old blueish color.) 01devilledts 04-23-06, 10:35 PM Heres a before and after

After
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b153/Camneedsfoodyo/IMG_4685Medium.jpg terrible one 04-23-06, 11:27 PM I remember one time I had this cell phone, a Motorola flip phone.
Anyways, at one point the screen broke. So I chizzled/dug out the shattered plastic or glass "face". I then took the front cover off and sanded it down to bare plastic. Same with the back. Then I put them back on, and got some bondo and filled the spot where the screen was with it. I then sanded it to smooth perfection, taped the phone off, and painted it. It turned out really great. I was proud. It really confused the Cingular people at trade-in. 01devilledts 04-23-06, 11:39 PM haha, thats great. WAs it hard 01deville? I have a Sidekick2 as well and I wanted a black one, except mine would be all black, buttons and all, I have the bumper buttons on the top and botttom black already instead of gray 01devilledts 04-24-06, 12:48 AM it wasn't hard (once i figured out the right way to do it) i was going to buy the all black one (mr Cartoon) but it was 500 and i could only buy it online (i never buy electronics on line) for the fact of warranty. THe buttons on mine were painted, but the paint and clear were very thick so the black buttons didnt fit, im going to figure ut how to make them fit soon. but if you can paint its not that hard to do. What kinda paint? Anything special yoo did during the process? I don't want the paint to dull quickly you know...yeah that Mr Cartoon, I liked it, but it had design on it, and I wanted just plain black all over 01devilledts 04-24-06, 01:04 AM well at first i used a testors model paint, that didnt work, (didnt hold up to touching it) so i went and bought a rust-oleom (spelling) for plastics, a flat black. sprayed it like 3 times, with 15 min inbetween coats. not heavy coats but enough to do the job, then after it sat for 15 min, i put it in my oven for 15 min at 150. When the 15 min was up, i openend the oven, and let it cool down in there.
i then waited an hour and a half, and then started the clear about 4 coats, same way as the black. and then baked it also. (haning from wires not on a tray)
then i wet sanded with 1500 and then 2000, and then used some rubbing compound to bring out the shine. (basically just like a car) then put it all back to gether How long total? How did you disassemble the phone? 01devilledts 04-24-06, 01:17 AM it took me 2 days, i didnt want to f it up you know. and as dismanteling it goes, there is a lot of parts, just take pictures step by step. the swivel screen come off with 2 t6 torx screws, and basically pulles straight up, the top portion comes off by using a small flathead and "popping" the 4 buttons up, they come off real easy. then there are 4 more t6 screws under that, then there is 4 phillips that hold the keboard board down, ant then thats all the screws, except for the 4 small ones on the back of the screen. everything is modular on this phone so you dont have to worry about any wires, jus tmake sure you tke out the camera, speaker, and ambient light sensor. you will also have to cut the plastic dial and end buttons off and set them back in place after (if you dont they will melt in the oven) i learned the hard way. but they still work, they were just a little deformed, but i fixed em. davesdeville 04-24-06, 04:47 AM Ok now I can tell the difference.
Take it as a compliment that I couldn't tell before. :) FSU_Noles 04-24-06, 08:07 AM That seems like a lot of effort when you could have paid $10 and got a black vinyl skin for it. I put a carbon fiber vinyl skin on my SK and it took less than 5 minutes.
Guess if you are REALLY bored... 01devilledts 04-25-06, 12:42 AM That seems like a lot of effort when you could have paid $10 and got a black vinyl skin for it. I put a carbon fiber vinyl skin on my SK and it took less than 5 minutes.

Now do that to a car, and we'll be impressed. boricuacaddy 04-25-06, 11:06 AM Nice job! I don't think I can spend that much time doing my sidekick. I will just wait till it just falls apart on me and buy a new one. I hear the sidekick 3 is due out in September anyway..
