"When 60 Minutes recently profiled General Motors, Vice Chairman Bob Lutz pulled back the sheet from what looked like the 2008 Cadillac CTS sedan. He only revealed a corner of the new luxury sedan, but our latest spy photos show an actual prototype in action."

Finally, some new photos. Nice.

I am still a little uncertain about the grill. The one shown on 60 minutes was way too chromed and tacky. The edmunds photos seem more subdued while preserving the Art & Science evolution, which appeals more to my aesthetic. Please, please, spare me a gross and tacky grill.

I believe this is the pup! Did people notice in the open drivers door shot that it still looks as if they have both the hood and parking brake lever in line with one another? I am actually glad I have not put much of anything in the way of accessories on our CTS as I will take a look at the second-generation to purchase. It the Art & Science theme is maintained we will most likely go for the second-generation, but if has chrome galore, Cadillac will lose us as potential customer and we'll keep ours now (we love the looks of the first-generation CTS). As the saying goes, "Chrome won't get you home."

The rear roof-line to trunk is more Nissan Maxima, than our beloved first-generation CTS. The C pillar is much larger and that will restrict vision. Very little trunk top lid portion as that too is more Maxima now. Hmmmmm....

From what I see of it, I think it's going to be awesome!

Can't wait to see some full, not-camoed pics! This car is going to kick some serious rear end!

When you do that you have to look cool when you get out. Go open up the hood, look around as if your checking for something then close it and get back in.:cool2:

I use to pull the hood latch instead of the brake release a lot when I first got the CTS. What I did to prevent from pulling the hood latch when reaching for the brake release was apply a small piece (soft side) of velcro on the underside of the brake latch. You don't see it but it's easy to feel when you reach to pull the brake release.

I notice someone changed the title of my thread from "Edmunds Spy Shots: 2008 Cadillac CTS"

I may be pleasantly surprised later but from what I see to date, I'm disappointed.

Yep, we sure have enough different threads running on the '08 CTS.

I have to wait and see the entire car. It looks ok from those spy photos but definitely kinda Maxima-ish in the rear, not really feeling that. Guess we'll just have to wait and see the finished product. I can wait to hear the true engine specs, 285-300 hp range will be nice!!

Specially if engine parts can be shared with our current 3.6.:bouncy:

I really hope they don't take too much from the Maxima. That is the rental they gave me while my CTS is in the body shop. It is a very ugly car and drives terribly (front wheel drive on a car with that kind of power is ridiculous). One thing I liked about the CTS is that the design was so original. They shoudln't kill that originality by copying designs of ugly cars...

Too funny on the get out and open the hood as I did that once at a store as not to look stupid.

The Velcro hood lever trick is so smart it upsets me that I didn't think of it! Now if I could only come up with a way to designate which side the gas filler neck is on our vehicles. There is no easy way to save face when you jockey for a gas pump only to get out and realize all that jockeying was for nothing, doh!

Thanks for one of most useful hints I've received from this forum!

It surely seems that the car is taller as the tires seem to be getting lost in the mix and visually puny (this coming from an owner who still has the 16" wheels on our CTS). I wonder what lurks under that hood that they might raise the car? The rear looks to have more height in the trunk space.

Gas guage has an arrow on it pointing to the filler door side. I didn't know this till recently either!

Gas filler side, just make believe your other half is sitting next to you and SHE is getting out to put in the gas. My othe car (300C) has it on the driver's side so I have made that mistake myself.

-When I first bought my car...I would literally pull the hood everytime i was going to release the break...This lasted for like a week.

- I like my 06 better than that one if thats the actual body style

It will be disappointing if they do not add a real handbrake. Also this car needs AT LEAST 300 hp to be competative with the newer cars coming out in the entry level segment. And Ive also read this car will be a bit bigger?? If thats true what is the point of the STS? The STS is only slightly bigger than the current CTS, they need to make the CTS small enoguh to compete in 3 series, IS, G35 terriritory.

Actually people seem to be saying the 08 will be shorter. As crazy as this sounds, because of the new photos (esp. of the interior) I am PUTTING OFF buying the 06 for now and will buy the 08 next year. I hate buying a car only to have the body style change right after I get it :want: Looks like GM will be addressing my major complaint with the CTS by redesigning the interior. Now I'll be on pins and needles for the next year or so....

I agree with your wish for a proper handbrake. But, if you look at the spyshot with the door wide open, you can clearly see two handles on the lower instrument panel. They appear to be the same as the placement on the current car. One for the hood, one for the brake. That, and I don't remember seeing a hand brake lever in the 60 Minutes shots of the upcoming interior.
