Anyone know anything about Gran Turismo 4, specifically a release date and car list? I heard that it will have an insane car list, something like 500+. This time around Cadillac has sporty cars that would fit into a game like that, I hope that a CTS or XLR makes an appearance.

Last I heard, the release will be in September. I haven't seen a car list, but have been hoping that the CTS-V would be included. Being included in Gran Turismo is the best publicity a car can receive. I heard the number of cars will be greater than GT3 but will be a bit shy of GT2's 300 or so car list.

That's an incredible number of cars!! Growing up with an Atari 2600, when I got the first Tomb Raider for ps1, it was like a new world. I'm still blown away from Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 for ps2. What is the Steinmetz Catera Concept? Could that be a pre-production CTS? Also, what does Modelo mean?

From an article I read, it takes them something on the order of 6 hours to get just the real-life statistics needed from the car. They get all the sounds, from in-cabin to the exhaust note on takeoff. They get shots from all angles, and they have the cars do specifc turns with sensors in the car.

So, all the cars in the game are cars they have had physical access to to get the statistics from. I don't understand why a CTS wasn't included, but probably has to do with the fact that the CTS-V isnt out yet, and so the CTS wouldnt make the showing they would hope for.

Buddy of mine recently rode in a CTS-V. Apparently the car tells how many G's you're pulling at any one time. .6G on the launches/accel. Says it looks pretty good in person... Lucky bastard.

As a note, looks like they're returning to more class work on the racing. Old muscle, race cars, street machines... Looks like even a heavyweight class might be in there. Or a touring car class. *dance*

the evoq is in that list, basicly the lxr. Oh and that catera is a tuned version by a german company Steinmetz, it had a body kit, really nice rims, exaust work, oh and a super charger. Iam glad there are more than just 2 caddies in GT4, i was thinking at the most they would have the LMP racer and maybe the cien, but an 2 eldos and the evoq also, thats cool.

yeah, I would have liked to see some other Caddys.... but some things i don't like... like they have the Pontiac Fiero.... but with a '84 SE... a '88 GT would have been far better.... the '67 Eldo.... they looked weird (stealthy, not really my kind of car though) they had the 429 but were FWD.... I would soo much have rather seen a ~'75-'76 DeVille/Fleetwood with the 500 and RWD.... but oh well.... the ETC is a 1995 or so.....

The Crown Vic Police Interceptor will be fun though :D

My favorite thing about GT has always been the inclusion of 'normal' cars.

Did they really need to include that many Evo's or Skylines... I know they're popular and are nice performing cars, but geez, it gets to be overkill at a point, doesn't it?

I wonder if we could get a hold of a modifications list too... I hope they didn't spend so much time on the car models that they skimped on the add-ons. That has always been one of my favorite parts.

Load up GT4 go to the garage, the to status. When it opens up it will display some text, read it then press start 2 times and it will confirm that it is transferring the licenses and 100k in credits.

Sorry, I meant GT4 probably looks no better than GT3. GT3 had a very smooth running engine too compared with GT2 for the ps1. More realistic feeling of speed, no motion slowdown, etc.

i can't wait for Midnight Club 3, with the Cadillac 16! I can't wait to put some phat chrome on that thing:sneaky:. Not to mention the graphics look good and it runs as fast as Burnout 3, which is a really cool game too.

Before I consider this game I'd like to know if everybody is happy with it.

I'm more into musclecars than exotics so how are they? Do they handle similar to the other games, any glitches where the screen goes blank or loading jams, etc??

I'm almost 50% done, and I still love it, but dayum if it hasn't gotten very hard. There are a couple glitches here ad there, where the screen goes a bit choppy for about 2 seconds, but it cleans itself back up. As for how the cars look.... They're absolutely gorgeous. Just no describing how beautiful they are. All the cars a rendered magnificently, and some fo them.... you could cream your pants to. My 70 Chevelle SS is still perhaps my most beautiful and intimidating looking vehicle. And it looks huge roaring up behind some of the smaller European classics. My E55 AMG is another car I love a ton, and my Saleen S7... It's just all so beautiful...

A few infos about the game: first game on PS2 to be able to output a 1080i signal. For those who don't know, that's High Definition. You obviously need a TV that can support that and component cables for the PS2 (yes you can find them).

Graphics look awesome in my opinion. There's that glitch that is mentioned by Shadow. Sometimes the screen gets jumpy then fixes itself. Don't know why but I can live with it.

The game is hard. At least for me.

About cars, not all that you see on sale by manufacturers (both "new" and "classic") is all that's in the game. There are more cars that you can't get unless you know how the game works (I don't quite agree with that. I don't think I'm supposed to go read over dozens of FAQs on the web to find all the tricks). For example, some cars can only be found in the Used Car shops on certain weeks (there are weeks and days in the game). I found all that by reading the FAQs posted on gamefaqs.com. Best site for FAQs (no, I didn't make any and am not affiliated in any way). Some reward cars may not be available any other way either. I haven't played enough to find out.

You set the HD up with the PS2 console, not the games themselves. I'm not sure if the menus are in HD or not - I haven't noticed. If they weren't, it would just put black bars down the sides.

I've had the wheel and pedals for a while. It's not a Logitech. I don't remember what I paid, but it wouldn't have been $150. I think it was around half that.

Im not sure of the name either. I did see one that was impressive though. One were you sit in a racing seat with a steering wheel and peddles.

You sure about that ? The PS2 doesn't have a high def mode built-in. Only this game does. What you set on the PS2 is widescreen or not. And that's where you get black bars on the side or not, nothing to do with high def, which can be widescreen or not.

I was mentioning the Logitech because apparently it's specifically compatible with this game and if I remember correctly, it's mentioned in the manual (don't have it handy right now). Apparently it offers extra features, but I'm really not too sure.

No, I'm not really sure about that. I haven't goofed around with it enough to be sure. I'll have to take a closer look - thanks for the info. I might be able to get 'real' high def out of it then.

Okay, I'm an idiot.

I got lookin' at mine and it's not set up in HD. I only have 2 HD inputs on my TV and they're consumed by the digital cable and the DVD player. I have the component (HD) video cable for the PS2 but it's just laying there behind the TV. I must've abandoned the effort at some point. The PS2 is hooked up via plain old composite (RCA) hookups. It still looks damn good. My TV has been 'wide zooming' it. I thought maybe the GNX looks a bit sleeker than in real life - it did because it's stretched a bit.

Anyhow, the hi-def settings are indeed in the game itself. You can select 16:9 within the game. I haven't hooked it up in hi-def yet because it would take a whole lotta moving stuff around. My TV does 480p or 1080i, both of which are options in the game. Some day if I'm feeling ambitious I might swap out one of the digital feeds for the PS2. I need an amp that switches more than 2 HD inputs, which is tough to find. As a result, I do all the switching through the TV.

Out of curiosity, what TV do you have ? Was just wondering if you also had DVI or HDMI inputs which would free one of the component inputs... unless you already have examined all the possibilities. A separate HD switch ? Umm, no, probably not easy to find.

Actually I haven't exhausted the possibilities. I'm pretty sure I have other digital inputs on it. It's a 57" Sony rear projection. It's about a year-and-a-half old. It has 7 inputs, I believe, but only 2 component inputs. My A/V receiver is too old and only switches composite video signals. A new Onkyo that I've been looking at (I want to move to 7.1 anyway) would have at 3 component inputs so I can switch 3 HD signals with the receiver and still have one left on the TV.

A year and a half ? You probably have 2 component inputs and a DVI input. The rest being traditional s-vid and composite. If you can get something through the DVI input, you're set. Your DVD player might be able to (if it's new and has an HDMI connector, not DVI, it's still possible with the right cable), not so sure about the set-top box.

You're right - input #7 is a DVI input. The DVD player is about the same age as the A/V receiver so I'll see what my options are.

Also, my steering wheel is a Logitech Driving Force. It's one of the ones in the pictures in the game.

It feels kind of awkward. I have it clamped to a coffee table, but it's a tall coffee table with a top that raises so you can eat and watch TV (and they wonder why Americans are fat). I can get it so that it's sort of decent, but it's not great. I don't think it's possible to get a 'real' driving experience with one of those.

With all of the extra Caddy interior parts I wanted to construct a real driving simulator and graft the steering wheel and pedals into it. The wife quickly nixed the idea and pointed to the hundreds of other household projects that I've been neglecting. Plus it would be ugly.

The game is obviously optimized for the wheel, though. It's A LOT easier with the steering wheel. It's kind of crappy that they basically sabotage the game for people with standard controllers.

Mine came with the lap attachment. It's kind of useless. The feedback in the wheel is pretty strong so you have to squeeze your legs together to keep the wheel steady while trying to work the pedals with your feet. It's like a game of Twister.
