How much would you have to shell out for an install on one of these? I've got a local shop that quoted me $1000 (quote on the part was $425). Seems a little high on both but wanted to get a second opinion (or two)

I paid around $360 for the shifter and $30 for the bushings on a group buy. The dealer installed the shifter for $100.

Contact James at Lindsay Cadillac, it's possible he has some UUC shifters on hand.

If you consider that someone does this type of mechanical work for a living, $100 or a little over seems reasonable.

If you have some jack stands or ramps, some wrenches and a socket set, an electric drill and bits, the interest to do something mechanical and a few hours (tops), you can do this yourself. It's actually kind of fun.

For the record we carry the shifters and the bushings and sell them at a "package" price...

This shop I'm talking to is full of it then, $1000 for a shifter and install seems outrageous. $575 for labor, I think not.

Also quoted me $7800 for a maggie, install, and tune.

If I had a shop I could do the work myself but that's not an option......:thepan:

Is that for a polished maggie or satin finish ($1,000.00 difference in msrp price on the maggie itself)? For polished, it is still high, but not out of the ballpark if they know what they are doing. BTW: The stock maggie tune isn't the greatest.

The shifter install sounds a lot harder than it really is. A lot of guys have done it using jack stands or ramps. Do a search on this forum, James at Lindsay described how to do it from above if I remember right.

Also, I had Brian at JPA (Chatsworth, CA) do my maggie and he did a great job. He used to work for magnacharger and he knows the system.

Good luck,
Marty

So where can I find a list of UUC installers? I am in Texas.

If anyone is in New Jersey and wants help installing the UUC shifter let me know. I have a lift in my garage and will be installing a UUC shifter in the near future. We could do several cars at a time or I would be willing to help you install one here. I have not done it yet, but did install the shifter in my Vette and it was a piece of cake. I understand it is much more work in a V but with good instructions, it shouldn't be that bad.

Install at Arman Auto in Costa Mesa was $156 for UUC, 2 hrs @ $78/hr, they'd never done one, said it was a challenge (I supplied parts, bought from James at Lindsay Cad), and $117 for a Corsa install (1.5 hrs); Allen Cad in Laguna Niguel wanted $850 or so for the UUC parts and install, and $1600 for the Corsa and install...you can see why I go elsewhere.
