HotRod magazine stuffs a 550bhp ls7 crate moter into a solstic with GMs help.
Their #1 of what they call their top 3 hot rod v8 solstic tips is swap
out the stock diff for one from a cadillac cts-v. The v8 solstic only weighs
3000 lbs but how long do you think that diff would last with 550bhps going threw it?
what diff dose malett use on his 600bhp solstic?

Should do fine. A car that weighs almost 1k lbs less than the V but has the same rwhp as a maggied V...there should actually be less stress on the rear diff in the LS7 modded Solstice.

...especially if there is little to no wheelhop.

Yep.....getting weight moving is alot of stress on a diff. From a dead stop especially.

So reducing the mass should make the diff last.....forever?? We'll see. Obviously any ....and I mean any, part will fail if abused long enuf at its limit.

The Soltice uses the V diff from the factory. Mallett just blueprints it so there is no break-in. Since were on the subject I was instructing at Nelson Ledges in a students C6 and he want to get agressives coming out of the pits on cold tires went off spinning. Wheel hop was noticeable but less than my '05 GTO and much less than when I had a V. Must be an independent rear end thing.

Norm - hopes the project will not be needing a diff.
