Looking to take up Laija_01's project of painting my headlights to have a metallic black housing/reflector. Well, I don't ever modify anything permanent on my car, just have all original parts when I sell it. So to resolve that, I'll buy some used STS headlights to work on and swap em over.
Before I go looking for them, is there any major difference between the V and non-V housings that I need to worry about? I know not all non-Vs are HID, but should that matter much for the housing?
Housings are identical between V and base.
If the car had headlamp washers it will have OEM HIDs. Even so a simple swap internally is doable to change from the OEM halogen lamp holder to the OEM HID lamp holder (2 screws hold the projector bowl on which can be swapped out with only the back cover removed) then move your D1S HID lamp and ballast over. I believe someone has claimed that the wiring is different between OEM HID and halogen but I've not looked at the wiring specs to be sure.
Make sure not to break the little tabs that hold that little clear dome for the running lights when you push it back in and when you re-butyl the lens cover back on, make sure you have some pressure pushing it onto the housing while that stuff dries or you will probably have leaks. Learned that the hard way.......
I'm not sure whose car this is but it's the only other sts-v I've ever seen so I had to pull over and get a picture of them together. Mine is the one on the right. It was in gretna Louisiana. Anyone know who's is the car on the left?
Why cover that beautiful stainless mesh with black paint? That was one of the biggest turn offs with the gen 2 cts-v for me. The plastic grill................
I guess the same argument can be made for blacking out the headlights. The answer is preference.
