View Full Version : Victim for the 2nd time spiceman 04-12-06, 11:11 AM The headlights off my '06 Lade were stolen late Fri. night. I awoke to a crash sound and my alarm going off. I look outside my bedroom window and see a car parked a few houses up the street, the shadow of someone running back to the car, and a female's voice saying hurry up. They sped away and I couldn't get the plate because it was too dark. I was about to run outside with the heat but my wife's cooler head prevailed. I knew they got away with something so I didn't even go outside 'til the police came.
They damaged the front hood as they were prying the lights out. This the 2nd time in 6 mos. that my truck has been vandalized. The first time the took a subwoofer I had installed in the back by smashing the rear windshield. So what do I do? Go out and by a Viper alarm. You would think that would deter the perps, right? Now I'm without my ride for a week plus and out $500 for the deductible. I guess now I have to purchase sensors for the lights. Didn't even know they existed. You can imagine I thanked the alarm installer for telling me about this option 6 months ago.
Anyway the next morning I was upset to say the least but my 9 month old daughter woke up with the biggest smile I've ever seen. It made me realize how trivial material sh-t like a car is. However it doesn't erase the fact that I work hard for everything I have. I'm even thinking about not putting my rims back on for the summer. If I can't enjoy it what's the point. Someone even keyed my wife BMW 325 2 mos ago. Obviously the perps are just haters or pro thiefs that have been monitoring me. I'm sure they're going to try to come back for the TV headrests but I'm noticing a pattern and will be sleeping lightly on certain days from now on. jrs05caddyext 04-12-06, 11:17 AM Sorry to hear what happened. Damn, sorry to hear that happen to you man.
I would get a survelliance camera for the front of the house if you are parking your truck on the driveway. I park mine in the garage, but I have a camera on my rooftop that is facing towards the cars on the driveway, and its great. I put it on record everynight before I go to bed. It even has night vision too.
One time, my wifes RX300 alarm went off. I ran outside and saw nobody. It woke us up at 3am. Well, since nothing was wrong with the vehicle, I decided to rewind the tape, and sat there and watch it. Well, my wife and I found the answer from the tape. It was the damn neighbors cat, that jumped on her hood and set the alarm off! BUT, that made me feel good to know that I can rewind the tape and watch whats going on.
Mind you, the survelliance also records sound too, so you can hear if somebody is whispering (if there's more than 1 person stealing wheels or something).
Anyways, i'll shut up now. Once again, sorry that happen to ya. Those damn bastards need to get caught! If they pry the headlights from the front of the truck, wouldnt that break the brackets that holds the headlight in anyways? Which makes the headlights useless???? spiceman 04-12-06, 11:36 AM DLE - How much did the surveillance system run you? DLE - How much did the surveillance system run you?
It was cheap. I got it off ebay for like $60. You just tap the camera to a regular VCR and bingo. Its done. and mount the camera on your roof. I have a two story house, so its way up there, so the theifs cant see it, or reach to get to it. On my second story house, I have a guest room upstairs with a tv and a vcr in it. So I just run the camera outside to that bedroom window.
Here's one on ebay that is similar like mine. I've had mine for over 2 yrs now. and its been in the rain, snow, wind, etc and have no problems! You can find sets of them that has 4 cameras etc, but thats up to you. One is fine with my house, as it gets my whole front area of my driveway.

The only thing is. You have to put the vcr on record everynight (takes 1 minute to do), so it doesnt bother me, but I sure get good sleep knowing my house is secured.. It tapes up to 8 hrs of recording each night, depending on the recording tape you buy and set the mode on the vcr to LP I think... Normally i go to bed at 11pm or so, so it records from 11pm to 7am (which is when I go to work).
The regular recording tape I buy at Wal Mart, can be recorded over and over again, so if nothing happens to the cars outside of my house in the morning, i just use that same tape and record over that tape, again. But I switch to new tapes every 2 months or so (since the recording tapes are cheap), just to make sure I get good quality.
IF, a thief was to break into your car, and you got them on tape, the cops can use that tape to investigate, and they can actually zoom in, etc etc. For ex. you said that a car was parked across the street right, well, the investigators can use that tape and zoom onto that license plate, IF the recording catches it. BUT, if the thiefs parked at the side of your house, then you are SOL. Unless, you bought the set of 4 cameras, that gets the side of the house as well.
Hope this helps man. If you need more info, let me know.
All you other guys should put this to thought as well. Its worth it! hornyjuan 04-12-06, 12:12 PM Spend like $1500 and get a DVR. Get a camera with the correct focal length/auto-iris lens/520 lines/tons of led lights. You can have your DVR setup to run off motion and depending on the harddrive space, recording quality, and recording size you can probably record up to a week. Get a 4 channel 80-120fps and record at svga quality and you'll get a good shot of the bastards face. Strategically place the 4 cameras and you'll be good to go. This might sound excessive but I think someones out to get you. You gotta fight fire with fire. jrs05caddyext 04-19-06, 03:33 PM It was cheap. I got it off ebay for like $60.
