got to shoot several guns today... it was great. i qualified with my Glock and scored 100, first time i have ever got a perfect score :woohoo: . also got to shoot a Ruger .45, that was FUN! i have got to get me one of those. i also got to shoot an AK-47, 223, and a Mossberg. they had a 50 cal but i didnt get to shoot it :rant2:. i just wanted to brag about my 100 though! i usually shoot about 96-98.6 give or take... it was fun. that 45 i only shot 21 rounds (7 at each line) and i prolly got, just by looking at the target, a 92 but that was the first time i had shot one so...

Congrats! Those Glocks are nice pieces.
More people ought to practice with their weapons before they try to defend themselves with one! I'm due to take the wife out to the skeet range with the 12ga. She needs to keep up with how to load, aim and shoot.

I sure do miss my mossberg
It was the Maverick 88 as opposed to the high dollar 590/500
But I never had to replace it - was a VERY reliable firearm
I had a home made sling for it and I could run all over with it and then shoot from the hip with it
I loved the gun.

Also, my SKS used 7.62x39 (as alot of AKs do.. I've never fired 223) and I noticed it would do plenty of damage and not kick much at all

Right now I have my eye on a .41sp S&W snubby ... :)

Hah! Ranger, that reminds me of boot camp and qualifying with the M14. At the end of the first day there were a few guys with swollen lips from not holding the rifle tight :tisk:
The M14 and M16 were good weapons. We had to qualify up to and including 500 yards through the factory sights.

I have a Glock model 23 (.40 cal). It was my first handgun, and I recommend any Glock as a 1st gun. You will never get rid of one!

I just picked up a 2-shot .22 magnum Derringer a couple of weeks ago at our local gun show. Here are a couple of pics of it:

wow, this got more responses than i though it would. yeah it was at Cherokee Rod and Gun Club. there were a whole lot of other guns there too although i cant tell you what kind. couple 12 gauges and a few .45 Glocks, a couple Rugers, a few 9mm (chrome Smith and Wesson was one of them but i didnt get to shoot it), a Desert Eagle that i didnt get to shoot but would have loved to, the list goes on. it looked like a military stock pile out there. it was one of the best times i have had at the range in a while. we also had a simulation course set up but i didnt get to do that. it helped relieve alot of stress, all this wedding stuff has about drove me up the wall. so i take it to the range... which reminds me, i gotta flower shop tomorrow... :bigroll: haha, good convo right there. "shopping for flowers today?" yeah. "why didnt you do this yesterday?" cause i was shooting guns... big guns at targets...

Hehehe...sunday before last I fired around four THOUSAND rounds at the local 400+ yard range. I had a HELLUVA time. It's behind Beale Air Force Base, and is just an open, free, public range. I took most of what I own, a lesser arsenal of my friends was included, and another buddy of mine brought a few of his REALLY big toys just for fun. We loaded the bbq, the ice chest, and made a seven hour day of it. Sig 226 9mm, Winchester 1300 Defender w/folding stock, couple of Mossberg 500's, Remington 870, M1 Carbine, M1 Garand, Rem. 742, couple of different 10/22's, 10/17's in both hm2 and hmr, M44, M14, Mini 14/30's, AR-15, 1858 Remington, S&W 357 revolver, Automag II, Ruger MkII, Ruger P89...I even took the Drozd electric full auto bb gun. The friends arsenal included a bunch of his deer rifles he was siting in, including the BAR II 300 mag, the 300 ultramag, the 243... the Saiga is awesome, as is the Redhawk in .30 carbine, the Automag III (.30 carbine), the Automag IV (.45 Win Mag), the Automag V (.50 AE), the Glock 17, Sig229 in .357...hell, I can't remember all the toys we had, but it was a helluva time! Like I said, we fired over four thousand rounds over six or so hours, bbq'd up some great burgers and had great fun!

The Sig229 was the fairly new .357Sig round...bad ass little guy. I like it a whole lot better than the .40S&W, except for the price...but its slowly coming down as it gets more popular. And Glock is the only other manufacturer that uses that round, that I am aware of... The S&W .357 is the 'ol stainless magnum seven round revolver... 686+, and I love it. I finally got a chance to screw around with the sights on it, and it's dead on at 50 yards now...which makes me rather happy... :)

Rolex...I get to pick up my new stainless Kahr K40 on monday!!!!!! It'll be my new carry...I will most definately get back to you on how I like it. Going to go to the local indoor range on tuesday morning to test 'er out. :)

I miss my guns... Going to get a 9mm Beretta again. As for shooting the 223, AR-15? Accurate little rifle, but lacks stopping power IMO. AK-47 is a heck of a respectable gun. Not real pretty or accurate, but as reliable as death, taxes, and spankin it.

I think the 357 sig will struggle to become as popular as the 40 S&W IMO. The 40 S&W filled a caliber gap that existed at the time, and as you mentioned the 357 sig rounds are still pretty expensive. Based on the balistics of the round though, I wouldn't hesitate to carry it for defense. A friend at work has the 357 sig in a Glock and uses it as his primary carry piece. I'm going to shoot that thing the next time we go to the range.

I expect to see a full review of the Kahr with pics! It's a good choice of weapon and caliber IMO.

Cool, gun guys.KS just passed conceiled carry. You can carry a side arm just about anywhere as long as it can be seen front and back.Don't know if i'll get one or not,125$ for the classes and 150 every other year=seems kinda high.BTW my gun I grab 1st is a Glock 22,I've had it 10 plus years now.The night sights are not as bright as they used to be.Over all the Glock is a good gun,I might have 10,000 rounds through it,just beginning to be broke in.I think I paid 406 new.

The G22 was my first Glock. It's a great sidearm, but I've gone with the smaller G27 for concealed carry. I don't guess I understand how a "concealed carry" license requires the sidearm be visible at all times? Open carry and concealed carry are 2 entirely different creatures. IMO concealing your firearm is the better way to carry (as long as its legal to do so).

This is new to KS correct? Last I read you had to be a licensed private dic to obtain a carry permit in KS?

DILLIGAF
04-12-06, 11:14 PM
Concealed carry is now legal in KS.Before you just had to wear your gun outside your clothes,so open carry I guess is what we used to have, and still do+now we can obtain a concealed permit to hide the gun.

Quick rundown of what's there...starting on the top left corner, working down, then down the center, then the small stack on the far right.

.177 Air pistol, I use it for darts. Smoothbore, but great fun out to fifteen or so yards. I've got a target set up in the garage and we can fire from the kitchen. :D
Sigg 226 9mm. My american express card, for now.
Automag II. .22 Magnum. Bad ass.
Ruger MkII 22. Super accurate for a cheap pistol, and stainless, so even better!
S&W .38 five shot break top. Relic. From 1898. Ammo is pricey and its super innaccurate with very little power, but fun!
S&W 686+ 7 round .357 Magnum
1858 Remington Blackpowder revolver. .45 caliber

middle
.177 break action Beeman. Great for squirrels that are putting holes in orchard rows and pests eating up the garden. Very high velocity for an air rifle, incredibly accurate, even up to fifty or seventy five yards.
Single shot break action 20g. My first firearm, a gift from my cousin who had moved up to a 12 gauge.
M1 .30 Carbine. Yes, Rolex was right! Bad Ass! I love this thing, especially with the 30 round clip!
old pump action .22 tube fed rifle. Fun, but not very accurate. The scope on it is worthless.
Stainless 10/22 with a LOT of action and barrel work. Bad ass little gun. Tack driver at a hundred yards, can put ten rounds on a quarter. With a better scope, a dime would be easy.
bone stock 10/22. A good candidate for a .17 Mach 2 conversion
Remington 742 auto in .308. Not that great of a gun, but I use it as an assault rifle with high cap mags. ten rounds of 308 at rapid fire from what looks like a deer rifle always gets great looks from everyone at the range! :)
Olllld .22 rifle. New Haven. My dad refinished the stock when he was in Jr. College
870 Express 12g
Mosin Nagant M44 7.62x54R Fun, cheap, reliable. Worst safety ever invented, have to be very careful with it, but the ammo is almost as cheap as 9mm, and it gets quite a kick out of newbies.
Mossberg 500 12g, a gift from my mom for christmas a loong time ago
Mossberg 500 12g, bought for seventy five bucks cause it was "broke", but really just needed to be cleand.

far right
1300 defender. This one's next to the bed with a quick progression of force. First, chambered round is law enforcement rubber buckshot, then it goes all the way to the eight round being a 3" mag slug.
the last two over there are smoothbore bb guns for the kids to play with. My ex-roommate had an eight year old who loved to go out shooting...so I bought him a crossman 760 pumpmaster and put a laser sight on it. The other one was just an old plinking toy breakaction el cheapo one.

The bright yellow thing is a Drozd .177 full auto bb gun. CO2 powered, runs on six AA batteries. Fires SIX HUNDRED rounds a minute and does great things to plastic bottles and white plastic patio furniture :D:D:D CO2 goes REAL quick though, and the little bastard cost way too much. But its incredibly fun!

The random assortment of knives is just what I had laying around in plain view...there's a couple of really cheap ones, a couple of decent ones, and a couple of really nice ones. The white handled skinny one to the right of the blackpowder revolver is a realy nice german made switchblade, the grey handled fixed blade one towards the top right by the M1 carbine is ridiculously sharp, after my time invested on the damned thing with my diamond stones, and is a shoulder straight pull that I carry when in the hills or hiking or biking or whatever. mounts on your shoulder, weak side, so you can pull with your strong arm...pressure holster is great, holds it even when rough mountain biking is going on, but easy and quick to draw.

Notice the ammo cans at the bottom. My closet is lined with them, but I didn't want to drag hundreds of pounds of ammo out. The shiny big one is a few thousand rounds of 9mm, the one on the left is tough to see, but is linked .308 ammo for an M60. The line of bullets by the blackpowder pistol include .308, 7mm mag, 30 carbine, 45 Win Mag, 50 Action Express, 50 BMG and a bad ass little 12g round that holds an M80 with a 4.5 second fuse.

I like my toys. If I can figure out how to take off some of my older pictures from threads long gone, so I have more space to put new ones up, I will throw some more pics up. :):D:):P

That and an inexpensive AK-47.
The shotgun if you have the right shells you won't have to worry about over penetration and the AK-47 takes high caps in case you have 2-3 *******s outside firing at you from their car.. What kind of long range accuracy do you get with the scope? We used to score on full body targets at 500 yards with the M14 and M16 with iron sights. You couldn't even see a standard target at that distance. I imagine the range drops off regardless after that.

Yeah, I remember that. Could hardly see the damn target at that range as I recall.

I've never had any training with the standard irons. In fact I've switched the front sight post out for an HK style front post(hooded duplex crosshairs). The Eotech 512 you see mounted to my M4 isn't a magnifying optic so really long distances would be difficult I'd guess. I would honestly say 250 yards is the longest shot I've made with irons (with any accuracy). This gives you an idea of what the Eotech holograph looks like:

ETA: the center dot in the holograph is 1 MOA.
