In an earlier thread, I mentioned the knocking 425. After that settled down some, I decided after checking the tranny fluid to try and move the car. Keep in mind, that this vehicle has not been started or moved in nearly 4 years. The transmission does nothing. The linkages are all good, and you can hear the shifter moving in the transmission (clicks as the gears are selected) but the car does not move. It stays in Neutral. Putting it in reverse or drive does not put any load on the engine whatsoever. I'll assume that this is a problem caused by the car sitting, since when last driven, it had no tranny problems. What could it be? And is it going to be simple? I dont imagine a TH400 just died and is shot all of the sudden.. no funny smells, no nothing. Just stays in neutral when the gears are changed. Thanks for any input,
Aaron

Have you left it running in drive, running with ebrake on and tires blocked, a few minutes? It can take a few minutes to fill the converter and all passages. Then check fluid level again.

I did check the fluid level before I tried to get it to move. I did not let it sit and run in drive for any length of time, i did try going from reverse to drive a few times and revving it up though, I certainly can try to let it idle in drive for a while. I'll block the wheels, but i wont take a chance with the parking brake right now, having sit in the same place outside for 4 years, even on pavement, here in upstate ny I'd be willing to bet just about anything that the cable will lock up if it moves at all. I didnt know letting it sit in gear would fill the converter any better than leaving it in park, since the converter is always spinning. I dont know much about transmissions as you can tell. I guess that will be tomorrow's project. Thanks for the input-
Aaron
It is likely that the car will have stubborn rear drums after sitting that long, might want to make certain that brakes arent the reason the car isnt moving. Anyway where in upstate are you from? Im from Rochester, maybe i could pay you a visit

I live near the (cough) indian casino, turningstone, right near exit 33 in verona. We could meet up, sometime, especially if you want to buy my pesky subaru! haha, its really a nice car, but its no caddy. Anyway, I'm scared to death of the brakes on this thing, best to just change most of that. But i'm certain there's more to the problem, becuase if it were a matter of sticking brakes, the engine wouldnt rev so freely as if it were in neutral. The transmission is putting no load whatsoever on the engine at any engine speed.
