Well I knew it was gonna happen but, i was tryin to fight it....

After spending a couple of weekends trying to degrease, de-rust, etc.

I decided to pull a couple lifter out to see what they looked like... couple of them were rusted to the cam, and the valley pan was sooooooo greasy.

I decided, i'm gonna have to pull the "pig" out, have the block cleaned, honed, cam bearings, freeze plugs... the whole nine....

I've already got all the bolts broken loose except for the torque converter...

Then i'll get the polished or turned,,, whatever is needed...no doubt new bearings, and rings......

probably even a new camshaft and lifters....

What is a good combo in terms of cam/lifters?

I'll feel better doing it right the first time, even though it will take longer to get on the road.........LOL

Dont know if you have tried this or not for the TC but... hose the bolts down with some PB Blaster give it some time to soak THEN wedge a piece of wood between the flywheel and the bellhousing to keep the engine from turning over and then (carefully) go to town on those bolts!

If you're doing the whole nine... the kit northernautoparts sells is probably your best bet, includes gaskets, bearings (you'll have to source cam bearings seperately,) and rings.

As far as a cam goes there are a million different grinds you could go with... need more info on what else you plan to do performance wise before anyone can make a suggestion.

Thanks for the tip about northern.....

As far as cam/lifters; i think i want to just bump up one level from stock....

I don't want it to be too radical; want to keep it as close to stock as possible....know what i mean vern:)
