So we all know about Uncle Ted's 20 year old push mower powered by Briggs & Starton, you know, the one that hasn't had an oil change in 5 years, low on oil, origanal spark plug and air filter.... yet it still starts on the 3rd pull and gives trouble-free service...

Well.... a 60 shot of nitrous meets a 5hp Briggs..... who wins? Watch and find out.....

I've said it before... I'll say it again... if Briggs & Straton were to make a V8 for a car, it would have like 100hp, be really torquey.... but after 1,000,000 miles, it would just be broken in....

Briggs 18hp with turbo... I think its a twin...

how come this sounds good, but a Honda 4banger sounds like crap?

Neither actually WON that battle. I'll have to watch the turbo one later.

I built up a hot rod 5 HP Briggs motor for my old go-cart! I had a Crane Cam, 10:1 head, better lifters, and a straight exhaust header! That little thing was bad-ass!!

a crane cam?

You can actually get hi-po stuff for them?

Then again, people do race them...

gotta figure, with the way lawn tractors are geared (very low) if geared high, a 5-10hp Briggs could get something moving pretty fast...

Oh yeah, there's a HUGE aftermarket for the 5 HP Briggs engines! Most of it is for race carts, but I built a off-road cart. I had a 2 gallon fuel cell up front and a high flow pump that fed the Tillotson carb with a billet aluminum intake, along with the 10:1 head, Crane Cam, valve springs and header. I didn't do anything too extreme, like forged pistons or rods, but it still HAULED!

damn.... thats so cool!

So only the 5hp? or does it work for all Briggs? How much of the stuff is interchangable?

I mean, why start with a 5hp... if, say you can find a 11-15hp engine form a lawn tractor for the same price?

I'm pretty sure it's just for the 5 HP engine. Mostly because that's what the kart racers use.
