Living in Chicago - it seems the All Season will not hold up based upon forum comments of those that live in the snow. Chicago winter was very mild and I have not really experienced my STS in Snow. Looking to take advantage of winter tire deals now... SO I ASK

1) Does RWD STS need snow tires?

2) Do you have to place winter tires on all or just drive wheels?

Thanks as always :worship:

Living in Michigan I have heard from several people with new STS's that after two inches of snow, you will be doing some serious white knuckle driving. I would HIGHLY RECCOMMEND looking for winter tires. I would also reccommend putting winter tires on all four wheels, this is definatly the most benifical set-up, and I have tried both ways with other rear drive cars. As far as the type of tire try looking for Bridgestone Blizzaks or Michelin Artic Alpins

You only need to put the snow tires on the rear if you never plan on turning. What good is being able to get the car going if you cannot turn or stop the car? Last I checked steering and braking was done mainly from the front tires.
My STS4 spent a few weeks in the body shop and I was given a base STS to drive during the winter. You really do need snow tires for the car to manage in more than a couple of inches of snow. We have a 4x4 truck that I made my wife drive rather than allowing her to drive the STS with the factory tires. Anytime you touch the gas the traction control comes on and anytime you touch the brakes the ABS becomes active.

Hey Space: I live on the North Shore and snows are a definite! The OEM rubber is substandard; so much so that everyone I have talked to at Caddy agrees, but won't say it out loud (at least at Foley). Get yourself a food set of snows during the summer and be ready for next winter. I agree it barely snowed last winter, but it was enough for me to decide to invest in some new rubber this year. I talked to Tire Rack in January and they recommended some decent priced tires, but I can’t remember the brand. Give them a call and they will give great free advice.

I also plan to replace the OEM with some performance wheels and rubber. This car is a nightmare when it comes to handling with the OEM - IMHO.
