Due to that thread about the problems on certain GM cars regarding oil and coolant mixing I decided to take a closer look at the 3100 V6 in my '99 Malibu. Well the oil is clean however the coolant is this filthy, chunky substance that is like a snot yellow as opposed to the smooth florescent green liquid I originally put in there. Whhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat the hell is this about?

Hello
Is it possible that previous owner have tried to stop a leak with some type of coolant leak stopper, that kind of stuff sometimes can look real nasty in the radiator and expansion can.

If it's mixing, it won't be snot yellow... unless you have some very different snot than me..... I'm trying not to think about it.....
With oil going in the radiator, it will start by getting darker green, then it will start getting brownish and murky looking.... chunkiness was not part of the picture. At least not on my old one. Thickening, yes, but no chunks.
When all hell breaks loose, the radiator fluid takes on the conssistency roughly of chocolate milk, and starts to even look like a 50-50 mix of anti-freeze and chocolate milk....

Ok good... It's not like the temp gauge on the car is reading anything but normal so I'm not too concerned. I will have to have the radiator flushed soon though, I don't like the way that coolant looks at all. The stuff in my Caddy is flourescent green, so that being a newer car shouldn't look like that.......

Are you sure it's not Dex-Cool?
Dex-Cool is redish-orange....nowhere near a yellow or green color.

We didn't put Dex-Cool in it. We put regular Antifreeze in it which is the green shit.

Did you COMPLETLY flush the Dex-cool out when you switched to the green stuff?
Chock one up to "amazing" Dexcool....

Mmmmm I'm not sure.... My dad handles the maintainence on that car, I just added green stuff when it was low. And the first time I started adding the green stuff, there was green stuff in there already.... I never intentionally mixed the two.

You'll be fine. Drain & refill with the coolant of your choice, then follow the change intervals reccomended for the green stuff (usually 2 years.)
Was the cooling system suppliment (sealant tabs) added? That will change the color.
