I'm a big Robert De Niro fan, and I love the scene in The Deer Hunter where he's racing the Mack truck on his way home from work.I know that's a Coupe De Ville, but could someone tell me what year it is? Also, are there any other movies that feature Cadillacs in chase scenes? The only one I know of is Phantasm,parts1and2,in which a hearse goes againt a 1970 jet black hemi Cuda, and almost wins!!!!!!

Anyone else remember Terminator 3 where Schwarzenegger really speeds the hell out of an 89 Fleetwood Brougham hearse and ends up totally killing it?

1978 Eldorado Biarritz in Terminator 1, getting chased by Schwarzenegger in a '77 Dodge Polara cop car. Eldo does massive FWD burnout then gets in real cool chase

1979 Coupe deVille Phaeton Edition in Goodfellas, getting driven hard by a coked-up Ray Liotta.

Undercover Brother, 1970 Coupe DeVille Convertible. There's also one I think called Black Cadillac. Looks like a 50 something Series 62.

I have Black Cadillac I got it for Christmas this year from my parents. I think the car is a 57 Fleetwood. It's a 4 door but they call it an Eldorado in the movie, which isn't true. The only real pleasing part of the movie is watching that Caddy kick their Saab around.

In Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs", the mob boss drives a brand new '91 Sedan deVille in Academy Gray Metallic with grey leather interior.

Get Carter had a cool chase with Stallone chasing a Volvo in an 80's Fleetwood. I think he had a newer STS in that movie too.

DeNiro's Caddy in the Deer Hunter was either a 1959 or 1960 Coupe deVille. I can't remember what fins it had.

In the opening scene of Casino, Robert DeNiro gets into a Silver 1981 Cadillac Eldorado Biarittz which explodes after he turns the key. This car is also in several other scenes in the movie; in the garage with DeNiro and Pesci, when DeNiro picks up Sharon Stone from the airport, DeNiro and Pesci in the desert, when Sharon Stone runs into it with her Mercedes Benz 380SL, and the end of the movie with a recap of the exposion.
There are also several other cadillacs in the movie; in the beginning DeNiro is driven to his casino is a triple black 1970 Cadillac Eldorado, DeNiro also drives a red 1975 Eldorado and a yellow 1978 Eldorado in various parts of the movie.
Pesci is driving a gold 1969 Eldorado when he goes to see the bookie he rips off. One of Pesci's crew has a dark green 1974 Fleetwood Brougham.
Remo Gaggi is seen in the backseat of a red 1976 Fleetwood Brougham while talking to Andy Stone. And Andy Stone drives a gray 1980? Fleetwood Brougham when he talks to DeNiro.
There were also several other Cadillacs featured in the backgroud of the movie. Casino had maybe the most Cadillacs from the 70's and early 80's in any modern movie.

In Face Off Castor Troy (Nicholas Cage) pulls up to the airport in a black 1996 Cadillac Seville STS. Great scene as he slowly exits the Seville and the wind blows his black trench coat.

A side note to my post about the 1981 Cadillac Eldorado in Casino, it was a V8-6-4. In camra shot of DeNiro in the car at the end of the movie you can see the ACTV CYL button on the MGP SENTINAL display.

Speaking of the V8-6-4, how do you know if it is on your car??? I just bought the 1980 Coupe Deville with the V8 6.0 and was wondering if I have it or not?

JCM1
04-09-06, 06:07 PM
The 1980 would not have it. The first year was 1981. In 1982 the 4100 was introduced and the V8-6-4 was only used on the commerical chasis until 1985. The 1980 was a regular 368cc. V8 standard carburator and optional fuel injection. Any Cadillac with the V8-6-4 would also have the distincive front quarter panel badges and the digital display indicating the number of active cylinders.

Actually the commercial chassis had a standard 4 bbl 368, the Series 75 limos used the V8-6-4 up until 1984. In 1985 the Series 75 moved to the new front wheel drive C-Body platform with the 4100, I have no idea what happened to the commercial chassis and what engines it used after 1985.

In Foul Play (1978), Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn race through San Francisco to stop an attempted assasination of the Pope. They start out in a '74 Lincoln Continental and drive it into a restaurant—and not a drive thru. Then, they get a ride from a yokel with a late 60s Chevy pickup with what looks like a homemade camper on it. The camper and the truck bite the dust, too. The third car they commandeer is an airport limo, a '72 Fleetwood 75. The Fleetwood makes one of those spectacular, slow-motion jumps over the San Francisco hills, but survives to get them to the Opera House, where they save the Pope.

What's Up Doc (1972), my all-time favorite movie, has a wildly funny car chase towards the end. The jewel thiefs are driving a 1950s vintage Cadillac sedan and a government bureaucrat gets a ride from a jaunty gentleman driving a gorgeous black '69 DeVille convertible. Sadly, both Caddies end up in San Francisco Bay, but it's a fun chase to watch.

I'm sure there are others, but those are two that come to mind immediately.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the commercial RWD's get the 368 until 86 when the 307 came out? I believe it was the '86 Fleetwood Brougham that first got the 307.

Just thought of another movie Cadillac. In My Cousin Vinny, Joe Pesci drives a '62 DeVille convertible, which clearly does not have Positraction, since he gets it stuck in the mud. Personally, I think that's a key scene with just the right rear wheel spinning in the mud since Positraction turns out to be the turning point in the criminal trial.

In the Matrix Reloaded, there is a great chase scene between a CTS and an EXT. No EXT had been built when they were filming the movie but the EXT did get the go-ahead so they used a Chevy Avalanche and Escalades donated their chassis for reskinning with fiberglass EXT panels.

Also, in the opening sequence of "My name is Earl" he gets hit by a 80s Brougham.

I love the 59 Cadillac in Fletch Lives. Hilarious how the brakes don't work and he smashes into all sorts of stuff. Kinda painful to watch too.

And then there's an 80s Brougham in The Colour of Money. White, just like mine!!!

64 Fleetwood in Catch me if you can. Great scene!!!

I believe the Cadillac in the Deer Hunter is also a '59.

Some great burnouts and driving in a 74 Eldo Convertible in True Romance.

If memory serves, there was an older Cadi and maybe an 80s Brougham in Wise Guys.

That's all I can think of.

EDIT: Found a site that lists all the movies a car was listed in. Check it out! (http://www.car-nection.com/ccof/caddy9.htm)

I believe in "U.S. Marshalls" Tommy Lee Jones and another Marshall steal someone's Silver-Grey Seville STS and give chase in that.....

The funniest part is, during this crazy chase, we get a shot of the two of them in the car, and the passneger remarks "Ya know Sam, you have stolen us a really nice car...." as he runs his hands over the leather trim....

Great movie & great Cadillac Chase.

And Goodfellas, besides being a great movie on it's own merit, is worth a look just to see that Eldorado that De Niro is driving... mint condition, super nice car.

59 Caddy is definitely in the Deer Hunter.

Then you have the Tony Montana "special" in Scarface.

I think there is a Cadillac (and a Buick) in Animal House when they go to the bar and wreck the Lincoln.

'59 Cadillac in "Pink Cadillac" w/ Clint Eastwood.

Numerous Limos in the original "Gone in 60 Seconds," plus he drives a big goldish/organish 71, 72 or 73 VERY fast at the very beginning. awesome

Red Cad Conv. in "Who is Harry Crumb"

and there's an 80s Cad in the opening scene of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." Also, in all the flashbacks in that movie, the parents always own a black cad sedan. Many different ones are shown over the years.

In "The Virgin Suicides" one teen drives a 72 Cad to take the girls on a date in.

In Christine, Darnell owns a Coupe Deville. '74 I think.

Obviously: Ghostbusters Miller-Meteor Ecto-1 Ambulance

and Cadillac Man has numous Cads in it, including a hearse in the opening.

So many movies have Cadillacs in them, many more I'm just not going to bother mentioning in them. They're an effective symbol of power, prestige, nostalgia etc, and are well recognized. They can play many roles, set up different sorts of moods in scenes and help movie-makers to get their point across. Yay Cadillac!

In"American history x" there is a '85ish sage green Brougham.

In "Driving Miss. Daisy" there are tons of classic caddys.

In "The Wash" Snoop Dogg drives a '90ed out early '80s Fleetwood Coupe.

In one of the newish brady bunch movies, there is a short clip of a Brown metallic early '80s Coupe Deville lowrider with gold trim.

In the new "Gone in 60 sec." there is a red early '80s-late'70s Eldorado Biarritz with a load of coke in the trunk lol.

Oh and lets not forget the other Goodfellas '79 Coupe, the pink one! (cool car actually)

The movie suggests Nicky at least that's what it always seemed like. The metal plate metioned under the driver's seat that sheilded Sam Rothstein from the bomb blast is in fact there. The 79-85 Eldorados had thick plating under the chasis, my guess for sturdy contruction and sound detening.
I had the same car just different color, I never should have sold it. The V8-6-4 was still working at 115,000 miles when I did.

Ummm, not sure if there is a way of telling from the movie. My guess it was a 350. They were the most popular in the LeSabre. If he had the Electra then maybe the 403. But I'm almost positive DeNiro's Buick was a LeSabre based on the three side quarter panel vents versus four and the rear end design.

Johnny Depp has a red 78 Coupe Deville, Al Pacino had a burgundy (I think) 78-79 Fleetwood Brougham. In Florida they had a light blue 82 Sedan Deville that they all drove around in. And there was that dark green 77-79 Sedan Deville they all drove to the hit in. The Lincoln that appeared a few times was nice too, black early 80's Town Car with wire wheels. But my man Al sets the record straight regarding Lincoln vs. Cadillac.

Actually that early '80s Lincoln was a 80-83 Mark VI four door. You can tell because only the Mark VI's had the oval opera window, the Town Cars had a narrow, vertical opera window.

That is true but, if the Lincoln that is being refered to is the one in the very begining that the boss is being driven in; I thought that was a 77-79 Continental four door. If that was the case, then it could have had the oval opera windows. I'm trying to remember if there was the 1980+ downsized version of the Lincoln in the movie. If there was and it had opera windows, then yes, it was a Mark VI.

The black Lincoln with the wire wheels was a Mark VI, you're right. The one in the beginning when they are standing in the cold is a 77-79 Continental. As for Johnny Depp's Coupe, I could have sworn his was a 78, I remember it having the 78 steering wheel, but I could be wrong. Sometimes for movies they have one car for exterior shots and another for interior shots, maybe that's why everyone is a little confused.

460 is the only way to go. Too bad the biggest engine in the Mark VI was only the 351 and that was only in 1980 with a carburator. All the others were the 302 EFI. Not a bad engine but, under powered.

I~LUV~Caddys8792
04-18-06, 08:30 PM
I dont imagine that 351 would be the most powerful thing out there at all, unlike the 351 in my buddy's 94 Lightning! Now that would make for a sweet transplant!

The 400 in the 77-79 Continentals wouldnt be too powerful either, with anywhere from 159-179hp, but torque was decent, around 320 lb/ft. The 460 would propel those 4800 lb boats to a low 17 second 1/4 mile. Not bad at all for that car!

JCM1
04-18-06, 09:36 PM
No, the 351 wasn't powerful either. All those great engines got choked after the emissions standards were introduced and the two fuel crunches in the 1970's. Just look at the Cadillac 500 in 1976, 190 HP!?!? Yes the toqure wasn't bed but, considering the weight of the car there was no other option. Still, it was nothing like the 500 in 1970 with 550 lb-ft of torque and 400 HP.

Benzilla
04-19-06, 09:15 PM
is there any way to take all the emissions sh*t off one of the later big block caddies to make it as powerful as one of the earlier ones? I'm asking because I might be getting a 425 very soon.

I saw the movie "Ultraviolet" yesterday. Thank goodness I only paid $2, it was frickin horrible and I wanted to leave halfway through.

Anyway there's a 93-96 Fleetwood limo in an early scene. Which is retarded since it seems like it's set about 150 years from now...

BTW as far as 351s go... I checked out a 351w powered Fox Mustang that was pretty nice. Made 640hp, IIRC to the wheels, on a 150 shot. With aluminum heads and forged internals. Nice car, but the 500ci Thunderbird I'm putting together with/for my friend is gonna burn it, with stock heads, stock rockers, and maybe even stock pistons and rods..

My favorite Cadillac in a movie was in "The Godfather". It was the big black late 40's limousine that was in the scene where Michael Corleone surprises
Kay and they are walking in the street and the chauffer is driving the limousine along side them. Remember that?

The Original Gone in 60 Seconds from 1973. They steal a 71-73 Eldo then set it on fire. In another scene the cops slam into a row of "used" Cadillacs from the early 70s. Then in another scene they are driving through the service department of that Cadillac Service dept (just seeing all those old caddy's getting serviced at a Caddy dealer was cool). Also another scene where people are looking at the new 73 Caddies.

I don't know if it's been mentioned before but just about every car in the movie Revolver is a Cad of some sort or another. I think there might be a Fleetwood 75 as well.

Nobody said License to Drive. It had a sky blue 72ish DeVille.

In the movie The Temptations, they all got new late 60s caddies when they made it to the top

In Tommy Boy, Tommy drives around town in his fathers two-tone red/grey 91 or 92 Sedan Deville with CLOTH seats. I used to love that back when I had my dark blue '92.

Did anyone mention the triple black '74-76 Fleetwood Brougham in the old Christopher Reeves Superman. It's chased by police who eventually shoot out the glass. (poor fleetwood)
