View Full Version : 3 materialstic items..... Night Wolf 04-08-06, 01:59 AM So I was thinking about this tonight.... a list of 3 things in life I really would like while I am still able to enjoy them...
I haven't finished yet, as I could only think of 2 right now...
Heres the thing, it has to be something that is somewhat in your reach... given your current and future plans, what are 3 materialstic items you would like to enjoy before its too late?
For me...
1) 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible.... but honestly, I'll be happy with any '59 Caddy, hardtop or not.
2) Douglas DC-3. Its my favorite airplane of all time, Aviation is my hobby and my carrer... the DC-3 is actually not that far out of reach if you put it into perspective.... I have two choices... buy an airworthy plane, or restore one... I'll be a certified A&P mechanic, so I can do that sort of stuff....
3) ?. I dunno, I have been thinking about it, but I dunno. I have no desire for a huge mansion or 300' yatch.... so I dunno... but 1 & 2 are definitly on the list...

1) My Wife's health back.
2) My health back.
3) My dog's health/youth restored. Waterfront property.
Cadillac Sixteen.
I'd like to own and operate a whore house in Nevada. Katshot 04-08-06, 07:56 AM Damn Frost, talk about depressing. Sounds like the makings of a country western song. I could go for the DC-3 too. Definitely one of my favorites too, but NOT in the top 3. If I had the money for any plane, it would have to be an F14 Tomcat. Hands down, by far my favorite plane of all time.
Top 3 materialistic items would have to be:
1. An island in the Carribean or South Pacific
2. A beautiful house on the island
3. A nice boat to fish and dive off of I~LUV~Caddys8792 04-08-06, 08:16 AM 1972 Mark IV, triple white, low miles, mint condition

Night,
Theres an airworthy Gooney Bird for sale here in Cleve. Needs paint, but damn I get wet every time I pass her. Beautiful bird! (why is the prop feathered in the -3 in the pic?)
F illumina 04-08-06, 12:04 PM Ahh...What I want:
1.) A fire palace. It has to be made of hollow transparent glass-like bricks that are resistant to flame so that the inside of the bricks can be set ablaze. A chemical within the gas that burns the fire would have something in it to keep the inside of the glass bricks from getting carbon build-up so that the flames would be considered pure.
1.) As of right now, I would settle for a nice CTS with the 3.6 liter engine. A V would be nice, but gas folks, gas...
3.) Finsihing my turbocharger project. That would be nice.

F
Man.... can you get any pictures? How much are they asking? I have been finding out ranges... but I have yet to really see a solid number...
The prop dosn't look feathered, I think its just the shutter speed on the camera, making it look like the prop isn't turning. I~LUV~Caddys8792 04-08-06, 01:49 PM Rick, how much does a DC-3 go for? Florian 04-08-06, 02:30 PM NW,
Ill stop in the FBO where its parked and ask for $$'s. Pics are no problem. In retrospect, that prop isnt feathered, just looks like the top blade is, bottom two are definately diggin in the air. BTW, where the goonie is, there is also an AT-6 for sale.

and a couple cars Night Wolf 04-08-06, 11:49 PM Rick, how much does a DC-3 go for?
I have been hearing that an average, airworthy '3 will get about $100,000-$200,000 at the current rate....
Honestly, thats a bargin in the Aviation world... a brand new Cessna 172 (Their smallest new plane) starts at $205,000 and only goes up as you add options....
Funniest thing today... I am playing Flight Simulator (still am) and used the DC-3 to take off out of Palamer Station, Antartica, I then flew to Argentina and refueled, and now I am nearly in the middle of South America... gonna hop over to Africa... anyway, I get the primitive autopilot on the '3 set, and go heat up some food for dinner, turn the TV on, and look thru channels... after swithching only 2 channels, on ABC Family, there was a movie... with an airplane... a cargo plane.... I quickly realized it was a DC-3!, can't mistake it... the movie was called Superfire, made in 2002, and its about these people fighting a big forest fire... I only caught the last 5 minutes, where there was some nice DC-3 flying action... but I am defintily going to rent this movie to watch it.... I~LUV~Caddys8792 04-09-06, 12:11 AM Good lord Richard! C-47 Skytrain was the millitary version..... then once we found out just how freakin tough the DC-3 was (the Japs would try to shoot them down with their Zeros, fail, run low on fuel, then fly the Zeros into the DC-3, blowing up the Zero, while the DC-3 flies back home) anywho.... then we started making C-47 gunships... basically, replacing the side windows with cannons.... a freakin cargo plane, realitively slow and handling that goes something like this.... pilot thinks about making a turn, pilot moves controls.... a few moments later, the DC-3 thinks about making a turn.... then the DC-3 turns... but even with all that, we made then gunships, and they still kicked ass.
Nearly all C-47's left over after the war were converted to civillan DC-3's.... weather for cargo or passenger use.... I know the Gov't still has a handful for various work,, because of their payload, and the abality to fly into, or out of nearly any field... including fields with 2 feet of mud (as often seen in Vietnam)
IIRC it was Pres. Eisenhower (sp) that said the 3 reaons we won WWII were the Bazooka, Willys MB and the Douglas DC-3..... and both the MB and the DC-3 kick major ass...
some really cool facts and info about the DC-3/C-47.
http://www.douglasdc3.com/amaze/amaze.htm
It was made in the mid 1930's... and still see frequent use from... everyone today... hauling cargo, passengers, medical supplies, fire fighting.... everything.... I mean, something that stands the test of time, closing in on 100 years, and still keeps going... is just so cool... I mean, with stories of then getting rammed by Zeros, clipping mountains, loosing half the wing, and still flying, being frozen for a few months, thawed, then flown, or surviing a crash landing, then flying out of the same spot... gosh, you could be on a DC-3 and not have to worry about a damn thing.... it'll just keep on chugging thru whatever you can throw at it.
well.... didn't mean to hijack my own thread.... MikeyTrees 04-09-06, 09:45 PM 1. My own golf course.
