How come Every 60 Ft there is a new church thats bigger than the mall 9 miles away, and has parking lots bigger than the high school, wich require police officers to shut down normal traffic on sundays, so i cant leave my house....?

Why does it bother you?

i have nothing against religon, but im sure there is something else that we can do with our money than having bowling alleys and movie theaters in churches

It's not your money, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Churches are supported by their members, not by Gov't. If they have a bowling alley in the Church, then more power to them. I remember how great it was when we finally built a 2nd building, a huge hall... because our small main building built in 1811 was too small for dinners and parties and such.

Why must people work? Everyday, not only on Sunday, but everyday if I try to go to the store thats a mile away at 6PM, there is so much traffic, I am stuck at the same light for 3 cycles.... it interferes with my life....

im ok with the church having the right size for members, but when it it islitterally on a bigger plot of land than the university next to it, i tihink we have gotten a little to big, howw can you honestly justify a wait 2-3 hrs for everyone to get in there talk, for 20-30 min, then wait 2-3 hrs to get out of the parking lot. Its like the superbowl got out every sunday

There is no such thing as a Church getting too big :).

Obviosuly people can justify it if they are still there.... a Church isn't going to epand unless there is a driving force....

you have a point, but they shouldnt be built that big in areas that cant handle the traffic, they could easlly move to a more appropriate location

Come to Dallas and then comment on the size of churches. The locally "infamous" Prestonwood Baptist Church, it's Sunday school typically has 1000+ people in each class.

Mega-churches are continuing to grow in popularity. Large congregations are needed to support the programs and facilities many people desire in their church life. The days of the small church with a single Sunday service and Sunday school, are rapidly passing. It's not much different from what happened to the corner grocery store, downtown clothing store, or one-room school house.

Sounds like your problem is not the church but the city planners. The Church had to get permits to build there and if the city did not do proper traffic analysis then they get the blame - not the church.

Of course the same can be said for any of the big box complexes (Wal Mart, Target, etc) that pop up and foster instant mini malls.

I don't know what part of AZ you live in, but I don't see that many churches around. I'll admit that Sunday morning isn't a time when you want to go out for a leisurely drive.

...I guess all the snowbirds feel the need to repent their sins;).

There are so many of them concentrated in one single area, that you are only able to travel less than 1 MPH?? :hmm:

I think you should go to one of those big churches this Sunday and repent for telling us these whoppers! :halo:

I think people should built a church that represents me, the Zoroastrian Fire God. That way when there is a traffic jam, I will zap the cars (BMW's) with my divine fire. This however would not be for your benifit, but for mine because I like to see fireballs fall from the sky and hit BMW's and such.

:D

I see religion is still a good business to be in.

The part that I would have a problem with is that it sounds like these churches (from 01devilledts' description) require taxpayer assistance in the form of police officers directing traffic and making it difficult for residents in the area.
Religions also see tax exemptions (most customary is not being subject to property taxes, for example) and if these organizations are using this land for entertainment purposes, I would say that the government is giving them an unfair advantage over anyone who would try and open a competitive establishment.

My Church has Police directing traffic on the street going into it.... I don't know the salary setup or what not.

The Church I go to here, is a far cry them the my Church in NY. Here, we have thousands of people, in NY there was about 120.... that was the classic small town country Church.

That's my issue with those non-profit street protesting anti-war groups too!! :bouncy:

These are normally off duty police officers that make a few extra bucks by working traffic control and security jobs while off duty.

True that! My dad is a 24 year vet and he does this every Sunday during the summer.

got 3 churches that block all acess to the main road out fo here , every Tue, Wens.Thrus.Fri,sat and ,sun....

er wait theres four churches....

2 of them have full on private schools , which messes up morning traffic everyday ...

Our local cops become moses for a period of time , parting the heathen sea for the folks that have just finished makeing up for the stunts they pulled in there lives over the week. "Moses" wont let the sea resume its normal flow till the last car leaves the church. Yours truely "the revrend stone" holds mass in traffic , getting testmony from the "congregation of disgruntled drivers". I normally shut the engine off and get out of the car and have a cigaratte and bullshit with everyone awaiting moses to allow us to resume our normal lives. The church folks have there fellowship , i have mine.
I have talked with the local sheiffs department about how traffic is controlled by the cops , but nothing changes ....Only place i see where someone directing traffic wont cycle the flows ....

By the time its over were all one mile deep.....

But i dont get mad at it .....Because ill be moveing out of the area soon ...

i go to a very large church here in Kingsport, the officers that block off traffic are officers that are members of the church. we have about 2k people in our church every Sunday. we dont have a bowling alley but we do have a work out facility and a basketball court. www.higherground.org is my church website...

Because there is no authority in these churches. any time someone doesn't like what they hear at one they switch or start their own flavor.
