As some of you might of read I have been looking for a 94-99 caddillac deville. I have gone everywhere and all I seem to find are 80-200k mile cars. Is this normal ? How much abuse can these engines take ? Are the devilles notorius for anything ? i.e trans, gaskets, pushrods anything ?

My son can relate. He's been looking for quite a while and just stumbled across a mid-80s towncar with 49K miles that he'll probably buy.

I have been buying and selling Cadillacs since I was 16. People just love to drive them. I have come across more low mileage examples down in the South east than the North east. I might be getting ready to sell my 1998 Fleetwood Limited with 78K if you are interested, it is 1 of 340 made :coolgleam

Best of luck to you,
Lelo

FYI, these engines can take plenty of mileage. My friend owns a limo service and one of his 2001 Devilles has 212,000 miles and is still running strong on the original motor and tranny.

I bought a '92 Deville out of California a while back. Absolutely immaculate but it had 160,000 on the clock. I drove that car back to Denver in a day and a half and it didn't use any oil that I could tell. I don't worry much about the miles much anymore. Lots of other things will tell you more about the condition of the car. This '92 had a showroom shine and not one door ding. Well taken care of by its previous owner.

From my experience I am surprised how long these things go for. I have a 1991 Eldorado with the 4.9L. I bought it with 280,000KM and anticipated an engine rebuild. Now has 385,000km and runs surprisingly well. No major problems, passes emissions tests etc. Did replace the fuel injectors, and stands up to quite a bit of abuse.

Any tranny problems?? Someone mentioned on the Forum that the 4.9 can outlast 2 trannies! (maybe that's with a heavy foot?)
