Is a new 06 worth the few dollars over an 05?? I am debating whether to pick up a slightly used or new (if I can find one) 05 or just order a new 06, I can get supplier discount through work. Have there been any more problems with the 06 rearend or has GM fixed most of the problems?? Thanks for the info.

If you're thinking of doing some engine mods, there may be a bit more availability with the LS6 over the LS2, but I'm sure that'll change within a short time.

As far as I know, the '06 rearend seems to be the one to have ... wish I had one.

i went with an 06 for the following reasons:

1. redesigned cradle and diff out the gate:
2. radio steering wheel controls (hated the goofy cruise control on the 05's)
3. free nav updates for 2 years
4. to me the LS2 felt faster especially in the midrange (don't flame i drove them back to back got out of one and went straight into the other for a test drive)

a good reason to go with an 05 is you will let someone else take that massive depreciation hit, unless you want to wait a couple more months and wait for the 06's. i paid $46k for mine 4 mos. ago, and if i was looking to trade and i got $40k i would be amazed...

Kadonny - Was your price the GM employee price??
If not, does anyone remember what that price was?? I am leaning towards an 06, can't find an 05 with gray ext. and black int. near the east coast.

No, I did not get employee pricing. They cancelled that back in the fall. If I remember right, employee pricing was in the 45/46 range. I paid a bit more becuase I got the FG2 and Corsa installed upon delivery.

I had to order my car. Not many Stealth Gray cars lying around you know.

The GMAC Discount is $3,700 off list price + 2.9% for 36 months, 3.9 for 48, or 4.9 for 60.

This discount is still in effect as I used it just last week to purchase my 06' V.

Same exact reasons here. We got GM employee pricing on our 2006 V and with the revisions that were made, it was a no brainer. We dyno tested several of the 04 and 05 Vs equipped with the LS6 and they all made about 340-345 rwhp. Ours put down 356 rwhp and 361 rwtq with 800 miles on the odometer bone stock. The CTS-V is an awesome sports sedan and with the super V coming out during the 2007 or 2008 model year with the LS7 engine in it, GM is trying to make it even better and the 500 hp BMW M5 competitor.

Does anyone know why it took so long for GM to ship the 2006 CTS-Vs to dealer lots from the factory once they were built? Doing searches on GMBuypower.com showed no inventory last fall until February of 2006. Our production date showed a built month/year of 11/05, but our dealer got it at the end of February 2006 and we got it the first week or March. I wonder if there were any issues with the cars during production. Anyone know?

The local dealer I went through had 06's delivered and selling when I bought my 05 in early December 05.

This is the only site I've ever seen for Chesrown:
http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dda/inventory.jsp?dealership_view_name=chesrownolds&dealer_id=1027307&result_car_id=198039996&sort_type=make_modelASC&make=CAD&model=CTS&from_year=2004&to_year=2007&from_price=&to_price=&search_type=both&x=22&y=10

But this link may get yanked because they are no longer a supporting member.

Shawn, as much as I really want to believe you (I have an 06 too, so I really do want to believe) I have never seen nor heard of a bone stock car putting down 350 and 360 numbers, they are closer to 340. What kind of dyno were you on?

And the comment about delivery. GMbuypower was showing some cars in December. I found one located near me and took a test drive in early December. Granted, it was the only one in the area, but it was still accurate.

As for the 11/05 date, something odd must have happened to your car. I ordered my car in the 3rd week in January, it was built in the 2nd week of February and it was delivered in the 2nd week of March. It sat in Michigan at Qaulity Control for close to 3 weeks. Now what they do there, I have no idea but still my total timeframe from order to delivery was 7 to 8 weeks.

shawn,

first off as a former corvetter and customer of lapd let me say hi, as for the reason the CTS-V's taking a while to show up at dealerships after katrina their was a shortage of rail cars available for shipping. also, they were delayed in getting started with production most likely to issues with STS-V and CTS-V diffs.

Kadonny,

It may be hard to believe, but that is what the Dynojet numbers were. The car was really hot when we first dyno tested it and it put out 344 rwhp. Coolant temp was 220. We let it cool down on the dyno and ran it two more times and it put out consistent numbers one after another. Second and third runs, the coolant temps were 175 and 190 so the power was in the optimal operating temp range.

Second dyno run was 354rwhp/361rwtq and the third dyno run was 355 rwhp/360rwtq. I am trying to post the dyno sheet, but it won't let me. It says the file is too big. I can email it to anyone that wants to see it or to anyone that can re-size it and email it back to me so I can post it for all to see. I guess our car is just a lucky one or maybe I broke it in right. Best way to break in a new car is to beat the living crap out of it right off the dealer lot and keep doing it for the first couple thousand miles. Everytime I do that, the cars dyno higher than average and no oil consumption either which is really great when the cars have Mobil 1 in them. Mobil 1 factory cars will usually consume at least some oil when run really hard. When we picked up the car from the dealer lot, it had less than 5 miles on the odometer so who knows why it is putting out higher numbers.

thefly,

Nice hearing from you and thanks for the info!

Since Shawn at LAPD didnt know how to resize his dyno, I did him a favor and did it.

Thank you very much for doing that for us! I need to post it in that other thread for 10secvette to see that I wasn't making these numbers up.
