Reed Katshot 04-03-06, 05:41 AM Now THAT's a sharp looking car. IMO, much nicer than the current design. I just hope the "super" V doesn't use those "add-on" fender flairs as shown in pictures. I think that would be a mistake. Makes the car look cheap. David W. Bailey 04-03-06, 07:19 AM 60 Minutes has confirmed what I have long thought, US cars, especially GM, have improved immensely, but the automotive press and the soccer moms are totally programmed to buy Japanese.
When you see kids getting orgasmic over Toyotas, something is way wrong. I have said it before, if Detroit made anything as ugly as a Prius, you would not hear an end to it. Jap cars are pricey, slow (in most cases), and very expensive to fix (which admittedly is rare).
The Toyota corporate philosophy is heavy, slow, plain or even ugly, and reliable. Compare a new Impala vs. a Camry.....which is really the better value and which looks better? Katshot 04-03-06, 07:48 AM In many cases, I think kids long after what they grow up with and most have literally years of programming via video games. And what's been in most video games for years? Import cars, that's what.
On the flip side, it's hard to argue with their choice of solid, reliable cars. Design is subjective, so it's hard to make a case on that issue IMO. Personally, I can't think of any manufacturer that pleases me with ALL their cars/trucks. There's vehicles that I find attractive in virtually ALL brands. On the flip side, it's hard to argue with their choice of solid, reliable cars. Design is subjective, so it's hard to make a case on that issue IMO.
Sad...so sad. If young people desire solid and reliable cars versa automobiles that have soul and inspiration.:helpless: dannystang 04-03-06, 09:58 AM Damnit my car already depreciated 40% in 2006, 2007 i think it might be worth 20k if I am lucky...
Jumping ship! Were sinking. Maybe in 2009 I'll look at one, maybe. Got to give any newly produced model time to get bugs worked out, especially (guessing) a CTS-V model would be 60-70,000 in price. Plus who knows the price of gas in 3-4 years to support an LS7 engine. Damn that's disappointing... Too european... Front grill is too trucky... I guess I'll hang on to my '04 V6 as a DD and keep the V as my weekend car. I have been saying this for years Katshot, you are 100% correct. What started the whole import/ricer movement? A video game called Gran Turismo 4. If anyone has ever played that game, you will see what Katshot said is true. I know, I played the game for hours and hours. The import cars (especially the Japanese cars) rule in those games. Subaru, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda are all over the entire game. Thats where the whole Evo and WRX craze came from along with the fart can exhaust and big rear wings. Kids are copying the cars in that game (and other games of course). Most of the American cars in that game are crap and believe it or not, that translates into the younger generation in terms of what cars they want.
Cars like the V and the SRT and even (gulp) the Mustang all help the american car image with the younger generation, the manufacturers need to keep up the pressure on the imports to really rival them. ssvette 04-03-06, 12:00 PM Any possibility of an unvieling at the New York Auto? I hope!!! Well, video games don't explain why the Lexus is kicking arse in the market place with the 40 something crowd. I think to the average consumer, domestic/import doesn't matter.
The ricer crowd of cars are in style, IMHO, because the cars are cheap, kids can afford them, and they are cheap to mod. Performance sucks, but the mindset of these rides (and general American culture these days) is status over function.
And, the new CTS doesn't do it for me. That grill is horrible. dannystang 04-03-06, 12:53 PM Well, video games don't explain why the Lexus is kicking arse in the market place with the 40 something crowd. I think to the average consumer, domestic/import doesn't matter.

When I was in college I saw everyone in a ricer with turbo etc...
What is boils down to is the following.
Daddy says I will buy you a car, no fast car. Or I buy you anything you pay the insurance...
At 18, a vette costs $4000 annually (here in miami) and mustang is like 3800.
A say Honda accord is 1500 annually? Slap on a turbo and a wing, you got a masarati. Rick Wagoner discussing Wildwhl's shortcomings. I hate guys who kiss and tell.
http://www.cbsnews.com/images/2005/11/21/image1061033g.jpg wildwhl 04-03-06, 09:37 PM And I quote Wagoner "...only this far from kicking CVP's ass..." And I quote Wagoner "...only this far from licking CVP's ass..."
I just think that's inappropriate for the internet. You never know who may read these things. :thehand: Yeah, stop giving the Non-supporter a hard time... CVP, Wildwhl you guys are hilarious.
I'd have to agree with Dannystang, videogames had little to do with the current tuner craze. People were ricing out Civics before the first Gran Turismo ever came out. If you look at the cheap car competition it's a no-brainer for most people, especially during the Cavalier/Escort/Neon days. When you compare that trio to say the Civic/Corolla/Sentra it makes a lot of sense to a lot of people what kind of car they want for their kids. And the kids don't mind because there's a huge aftermarket for those cars that allows them to think they're going fast. And then when you consider that the Civic/Corolla/Sentra will likely be reluctantly retired after 200,000 faithful miles, that kid is going to go look at the imports other offerings, especially after seeing his friend's Cavalier/Escort/Neon last a painful 100,000 miles. This all too common scenario only reinforces the notion that American cars are junk, and back then, in the compact market, who could argue.
I do really like the styling on that CTS and it's nice to finally hear from an exec at GM that product is everything and that design is critically important. Real change of pace from the usual list of excuses. Not that there isn't validity in each of those of excuses, but GM and its dealers practically forced a lot of people into the open arms of competitors. V owners know this better than anyone. PneuBird 04-04-06, 04:29 AM you guys are too much for words!!! :alchi: :alchi: :alchi: GreenMachine 04-04-06, 11:10 AM 60 Minutes has confirmed what I have long thought, US cars, especially GM, have improved immensely, but the automotive press and the soccer moms are totally programmed to buy Japanese.
ding! GreenMachine 04-04-06, 11:54 AM As far as video games go....
I'm only 18 and to tell you the truth I play those games to get cars I only WISH I could have. Whats the point of playing a game where you drive around a riced civic? That can be done in real life.
I want to drive Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, Ferrari's, McLaren F1's, Corvette Z06, Cadillac Sixteen, Cadillac Cien, heck I'll probibly never really get my hands on CTS-V or XLR, those in a game now too. Something unheard of for Cadillacs of the 90's.
The series of games I have followed over the years was simply called "Need For Speed". They came out with a game called "Need For Speed: Underground" and a sequel for it a few years ago. I played that maybe a week and traded it in and just dumped the first one. I couldn't stand the emphasis of what was on the hood, rather than whats under it. You know what though? That game sold MORE than the game that came before it! Need for Speed underground 2 had SUV's in it! I never relized people who drove esclades, navigators, and hummers wanted them because the have the need for speed?
Previous to that game they had all sorts of games based on upperend super cars and sports cars, both from the US and abroad. They had built a loyal fan base, then threw it away for the import tuner crowd. I thought the series was screwed up, why didn't they come out with a another Hot Pursuit I wondered or a mixture of both.
They came out with another this year/last year, called "Need For Speed: Most Wanted" and that thing flew off shelves much faster than the Undergrounds. Basically they extended from jap imports, to euro imports and Americas finest are now in there too. Plus you no longer have to "pimp" the ride with decals and you don't need rearwings or those body panel kits....although EVERY screen capture of the game shows every car riced out.
This "franchise" of games really shows the shift in momentum. It went from wishing you could have "this" super car. To Rally racing being big, to the import tuner culture, now its come full circle and it appears the big exoctics and American Muscle are returning.

Need For Speed: Most Wanted (http://www.ea.com/nfs/mostwanted/us/index.jsp)
The Gran Tourismo Series is based on the Sony Playstation 2 platform ONLY and is made and developed in Japan. Its also known to be one of the best simulators. That's why it so Japan car based.
The "American" developed driving simulator is called "Forza Motorsports" and is iindeed considered one of the best simulators too. It places an emphasis on european and american super cars.
BUUUUUUTTTT both of these games have well over 100 cars, it just happens the imports japanesse cars are unlocked sooner, and cost less. Why does this happen? Well because their performance STOCK is now where near that of the higher cars. They also have "race" classes, so only equal's can race each other. With how impatient our culture is sometimes they just simply "stop" trying to beat the game and feel content with their tuned import simply because its easy to unlock, and you have to actually work for a BMW, Mercedes, Lamboghinni, Corvette etc.

I rest my case, video games follow the times, they don't make them. Damnit my car already depreciated 40% in 2006, 2007 i think it might be worth 20k if I am lucky...
Jumping ship! Were sinking.
Tough break!
When I bought mine I figured it'd be worth $25 after 3 years of use.
The new car looks great! I can't wait to get my hands on one. lasstss 04-05-06, 12:19 AM Just looks like its headed toward the design of the Cien. Which isnt a bad thing. Could turn into a myopic Grouper like the Porche, that would be bad!:stirpot: nice face also To much bling for me. Definitely not european like others are saying. CTSVONFIRE 04-20-06, 06:24 PM Looked like the Cadillac 16 concept car. Looked like the Cadillac 16 concept car.
:yeah: I think your right, it did look like the 16...1000hp | |
