How much do you love your V?

I mean, given that I make ~100hp more, and have big meats in the rear, lowered GC suspension, and all the clunks...well, I like her enough.

But the 997 is calling me. C4S.

So, tell me the truth about the backseats. Can my 2 and 4 year old sons ride there for a few years?

Trust me - this thread is VERY V related...as one of us is seriously considering leaving the community again.

I sold my '99 Carrera (minor mods)(it was my 3rd Porsche) to go to the V. I know the '06's are different (the C4S's are sweet) than the '99's, but some of the aspects are the same. I got tired of the heavy clutch in traffic and much harsher ride. The back seats are SMALL - my kids are older than yours, but, it won't be long before they are really cramped.

Also, as much $$$ as we can and do dump into the V's, wait until you have to do something on the 997 - for instance, a new window motor was over $500.00. Also, mods are twice as much.

I haven't thought about going back. Especially since the maggie.

Just my .02.

Good feed back.

BC - no six pack here...but to be honest, the V would stay in the fleet. The 997 would be an addition :D

Then what are you waiting for? As long as the V is in the stable, us V guys won't be worried you're leaving. ;)

Ya know, I simply love the 997. I'd have one in my garage right now if I could have 2 cars. But, I can't, and so the V makes much more sense. Besides, here in Bellevue there is a Porsche in every 3rd home's driveway. They're about as rare as Escorts were back in Michigan in the 90's.

BTW, I've been reading about the crazy wheelhop the Porsches also make. Is that true?

That's an expensive as hell car man. Never even seen a 997 in real life. But if you belive the magazines its worlds ahead of the 996.

My 4S still has a place in my heart. Yes, the 2 and 4 can fit back there, it will be snug, but i would definitely bring them and their car seats for a "test fit". If you're 6'5" somebody ankle biter won't have any leg room :(

I can't remember how fast she was compared, but i never lost a race. She handles on rails, and the stability system never EVER let me crash it. LOL. Inspires confidence 100% of the time all day long.

I love my ride, faults and all. Its lost so much value I can't sell it for a while. Maybe I'll buy your used 997 C4S from you in 5 years :D

Get it. Porches just have "something".

I thought you had to buy the Porsche car seat for the kids? Can you use any type of car seat in a Porsche?

Somehow "Porsche" and "carseat" just dont belong together.

a generic infant carrier (2-piece) fit great.
i didn't have it long enough for a toddler seat....but Recaro makes narrow ones which would fit better.

I have the Porsche "Comfy" Child seat left over from my 992 C2. It is made for the front seat and has the thing to disable the passenger air bag. I have not seen a child seat for the back seats. They may not be wide enough. You will want to look into that. I have not driven the 997 but I have had a 996 and a 993 and liked the 993 better, but the A/C on the 996 was a welcome improvement. Get the Fabspeed CAI and leave the exhaust alone.

My simple fear is that I'll like the 997 better and the V will collect dust :nono:

My simple fear is that I'll like the 997 better and the V will collect dust :nono:IMO,if you can afford the car=go for it.My V was the first car I wrote a check for,and I bought it to drive fast,a toy so to speak. If I could swing a super car and not worry about blowing it up and losing it all,I'd do it in a heartbeat. My V is fast enough to kill me,and get me in trouble.Thats why I'll stay with it.Enough car for now,I still plan on freshening up the motor at 50,000 miles. That will be an adventure and costly.Probably about the same amount you'll spend on taxes if you get the Porsche.

For me it was the other way around. My last Porsche (a '99 Carrera) ended up being a garage queen. My daily driver at the time - a pretty heavily mod'ed Audi A4 ended up being way more fun to drive every day - at least for me.

Unless you need that new car smell, you might want to consider taking your time and finding a cherry used one with low miles for a good price (someone looking to get out of the payments etc.). I have bought all of my Porsches that way (usually about a year or two old) and I was able to drive each one for a few years and sell them for almost what I paid (in one case more).

Good luck.

Valid point...and that was the "original" plan anyway, to find a used one next summer or winter...but the wife keeps bitching about the V (not that she EVER has to drive it)...maybe the time is right.

If I were smart - I'd have Urby take my checkbook away and lock this thread :cookoo:

I told the wife tonight that when I payoff the V, a Porsche car payment is next. Her question in a sarcastic manner was, "you're going to payoff the V to get another car payment?" My answer, "yes". :D

Although in a couple of years, something else might catch my eye. The Dodge Challenger is really calling me out. Also in a couple of years the 997 911 turbo and GT3 used might be more affordable. Right now the M6, M Coupe, C6 Z06, and 997 CS are ideal.

WW, if you do end up liking the 911 more, and the V ends up collecting dust, convert the V for another purpose. Dare I say, strip it for track use.:lildevil:
