I didn't have them installed in my 1972 472! And it still runs! :)

The answer to your question is no, you should not need hardened seats. The cast iron in the heads will be fine.

Ok thanks for the quick replies
Honestly i dont think anyone here has driven their rebuilds long enough to answer that question. That was the my logic when I payed a little extra to HAVE THEM INSTALLED! If you want to save a little money and be just that more adventurous then thats for you, me on the other hand... i just wanted a little more insurance. GL

Should have saved your money or talked to someone that does cadillacs for a living.
If you install oversize stainless valves(and you should) there is no need whatsoever to replace the valve seats.

And im sure your just the person to save someone a buck...
What are the advantages of installing oversize valves... other than getting to know Earl the gas pumper a little more?
To your credit, that potentially could have been good information at the time, they aint hurtin nothin now though, unless they decide to jar loose on me, btw what are the chances on that?

Oversized valves allow the heads to flow more. More air equals more power! It's a good idea to install them performance wise, but not required if you don't want them.
