I have an 05 STS RWD and recently my brakes have been making a light squeaky noise. The car has 10,000 miles and the brakes were inspected and in good condition. Is there any way to get rid of this annoying problem?

You are not alone. I have an '06 RWD with the Performance Handling pkg (includes "high performance" brake pads). 2,700 miles so far. My brakes squeal at very low (walking) speed at very light pedal pressure, typically in the last few feet of coming to rest at a STOP sign. The volume is low (barely audible with the windows closed). They've done this since day one. My dealer (Stewart Cadillac in Colma, CA) told me that there is a service bulletin describing brake squeal that advises getting used to it. Oh, well. At least it's not a Volvo (which means "howling brakes" in Swedish).

Get used to it? That's a great fix! :rant2:

You describe the symptoms perfectly. I have an 05 1SG w/the Performance Package and 12,000 miles. It seems like it is better during the summer. I was hoping it might go away completely as some point, but I guess not.

Anybody know of any after market pads that would solve the problem?

Ditto here, I have a month old STS with 800 miles and the performance package and have experienced sqeaking since day one.

I have an 05 STS coming up on 13000 miles and the squealing brakes are becoming unbearable, every stop, every time. The dealers response? A $90 service that "should" stop the noise.

edstockunas and cobrakai: are your cars fitted with the PHP? Maybe brake squeal is an undocumented part of the PHP.

Sounds like everyone has the same noise. When the windows are closed i really can not hear it, but i know it is there. I checked around with other sites and people recommended blowing out the brake pads with air or a high pressure water stream. I went to one of the local carwashes and tried the water, it seemed to have helped. I have not heard much yet but it has only been a couple of hours, i will keep you posted.

I have the same thing with my 05 with 9,000 miles. I have had a squeek since the car was new. The dealer thinks this is because the pads are so big and they drag. The squeek is annoying and embarassing, I did not hink Cadillac were suppose to squeek. FYI my sound is without applying pedal pressure and at slow speeds.

Pardon my ignorance as a new owner, What is PHP?

Change the pads???
BTW are these pads the original ones that were on the car when purchased??

I have always changed my pads at 10K miles anyway, on my Vette, Yukon, G6, 9-3, and have never had these issues. I am currently at 9K with my 2005 STS V8 and have had rather good luck with the car thus far after my first issue was corrected a month after I purchased it (battery drain).

they are the original pads. The next step for me is changing the pads, but i want the dealer to do it for me! I guess i need some luck with that considering they told me they look fine.

Best of luck to all of you guys. My dealer has been awesome, they turned the rotors, but it came back. Then they turned them again, still came back- so they put 4 new rotors and 4 new pads on it. Guess what? It's back.

I suppose it's just like my RX-8, it's the price you pay for having performance spec brake pads. I've decided to live with it, but you could always switch to a ceramic pad with a less aggressive compound.

Just curious ... are there any 2006 owners with the PHP that are experiencing this problem?

Thank you. I assumed a lease so dont know if that option was selected, However i do have michelin pilot sport tires if that helps.

Yep. I have an 06 STS V8 with PHP & AWD. 8,900 miles right now and have had grinding & squealing brakes from the get go (they seemed to stop grinding when I had my son take it to the hand wash and power hose them, they just squeak like hell now). Not to mention that my DRL's (Daytime Running Lights) recently stopped working making my headlights stay on all the time, and I have a constant rattle near the sunroof area that I already took to the dealer to be "fixed" once last month. I'm really getting kind of fed up with all the little bugs my $65,000 car has, and the dealers supposed innability to correct them.

You may be needing brakes soon... see my post...I think there may be a defect out there!

The headlights are on because your rainsense wipers are active. Try moving the stalk down one click if you want the amber DRLs instead of the low beam headlights during the day.

 Thank you. I just read your post and went outside to try it and the DRL's came back on. All this time I thought they malfuntioned. I guess I need to crack open my owners manual and do a little studying.

Me! 4,000 miles on the odo. The brakes have squealed (quietly) since day one.

And like 06STSgirl, my brakes have started grinding. I doubt that I've worn the pads down to the steel backing plates at 4,000 miles. Let's see what my dealer and Cadillac have to say.
