On several occaisions in wet weather I have broken the rear end loose and almost spun the car. I was not pushing the car very hard. I don't think the traction control ever kicked in. Does the car have any anti skid control and how do I know if it works. My last car was a BMW and it would put the car right back on line.

Do you have awd or rwd . It also could be the tires. But traction control does work with stabilitrac and when it active you will see it in the drive info window in the dash. I have noticed it is easier to use the stability system in this car then the previous model STS though.

Shaf,

I have noticed the same thing, yet the traction control does kick in. watch your dash display under your gauges, message will come on "traction control"

I am less than impressed with these tires and the ability to grip the road! I love my new STS and left an Acura TL. But the tires need to grip better as I live in Chicago .

Verrrry interesting. I, too, have beaten StabiliTrak/Traction Control. I have an '06 with the 1SG Prem Lux Perf pkg and the Performance Handling pkg. 2,700 miles to date.

I took it to a driving school last weekend to wring it out: find out how it performs and handles, find out how StabiliTrak and traction control systems work, etc. (Oh, did I mention having a ball? I had a ball.) I was able to beat StabiliTrak and traction control on a wet skid pad, causing the car to spin out of control, after repeatedly provoking it. Was that ever a surprise. The suspension was in Performance mode, transmission in sD. I was driving at the limit of adhesion in a 200-ft circle on a wet asphalt skid pad, repeatedly lifting the throttle (to transfer weight to the front) then stabbing the throttle (attempting to break the light rear-end loose). On the fifth or sixth attempt, it seemed like the driving aids just gave up and Weeee! Around we went. I was able to repeat this entertaining behavior two more times on the skid pad. Later, on a zig-zag section of wet pavement, at relatively low speeds, StabiliTrac and Traction Control kept my car in line during five out of six passes, but I beat them once (i.e., passes 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 were controlled; pass #4 featured undignified tail-wagging exiting a 90-degree left hand turn).

Please understand, I was deliberately driving stupidly, trying to determine what my STS's behavior is in extreme circumstances. I was unable to experiment enough to be able to predict when the driver aids might leave me to my own devices. I have started an inquiry through my dealer's service department (Stewart Cadillac in Colma, CA).

Inquiring minds want to know.

I keep on saying all the time

change the tires.............

STS standard michellin MXM tires are very bad in wet weather... Someone I know installed the new Michellin Pilot Sport PS2....... simply the best !!!

his car was one of the worst cars in understeering ('97 mustang, more than 300 hp)... u know that mustang is not that good in stability control...

he said now it sticks to the street like a glue... and the car is much softer and very quiet

I will install it on my STS soon

ascariSTS: My car is fitted with the Michelin Pilot Sport tires as part of the Performance Handling Package. I agree that they provide superb dry and wet traction and are a fine match for the STS's suspension.

This issue here, I believe, is that some of us have been surprised by StabiliTrak and Traction Control occasionally being asleep at the switch (or so it would seem).

Anyone: is this phenomenon repeatable, i.e., can someone produce the effect at will?
