And it doesn't look very good....:holycrap: Do you have an email that I can forward it to? caddycruiser 03-25-06, 09:08 PM Your email? Young DeVille 03-25-06, 10:10 PM Thanks for looking for the Carfax... Here's my email millerdotcom@aol.com. I never really looked at these before what exactly am I looking for and how do I read them. caddycruiser 03-25-06, 10:21 PM Well, usually they just so a checklist of things like emissions, salvage title, etc., and check each of those off, usually as good. And then there's a section that has like check-ins over the years, giving the date and the mileage, typically when a new title was issued, the car was inspected, etc. The one for this car is quite a bit different. I think it has something to do with the fact that there's a few warnings on it, but you'll see what I mean. It's still pretty self-explanatory, though, if you read through it closely. To make a long story short, this car in particular has a Salvage/Rebuilt title and was also issued a Flood Damage Title at the same time. Apparently was damaged quite a bit at the end of last year...or was just somewhat damaged and still got a Salvage and Flood title attached to it. Sometimes it really is a small issue, but not often. Just be cautious, and try to ask the seller about it. Emailing it now...you should have it in a few seconds... caddycruiser 03-25-06, 10:23 PM To copy and paste one section of the report, this is how it reads: This sedan has had 2 owners and was owned in New York and Pennsylvania. It was originally registered by the owner for personal use. It was severely damaged and issued a Salvage and Flood title by a DMV. It was later issued a Rebuilt title by a New York DMV, which allows for the vehicle to be repaired and returned to the road. It was issued a Not Actual Mileage title by a New York DMV. This title is issued when the owner discloses mileage fraud or a broken odometer. Its original manufacturer warranty was voided after it was severely damaged. Young DeVille 03-25-06, 10:28 PM Thanks again.... And just think I called early today a the guy assured me that theres nothing wrong with this car. BTW I can see why the price was so low after reading the carfax. This makes me wanna check in to my VIN caddycruiser 03-25-06, 10:47 PM Thanks again.... And just think I called early today a the guy assured me that theres nothing wrong with this car. BTW I can see why the price was so low after reading the carfax. This makes me wanna check in to my VIN Yeah, it happens. Sometimes the damage isn't that bad and it just gets branded anway, so if it doesn't bother you in person, it isn't a big deal. There's tons of people out there driving perfectly fine cars with Rebuilt titles. It's the Flood Damage part that worries me. Yeah, sometimes that can be minor too, but water is never a good thing for a car to sit in or go through, and the damage had to have been at least noticeable for it to be branded as such. Did you see this car in person or is it on the net? What's the link if it's on the net? Oh, and if you'd like, I could get a report for you on your car...unless you don't want to see it:) Young DeVille 03-25-06, 11:27 PM Sure I'd like to see mine... But I'll email it to you. As for the link to the DTS Its been on Cars.com off and on for a while now so I decided to check it out... Terry Lange 03-27-06, 12:44 AM Caddycruiser, I purchased a 2001 DTS from a rebuilder last October that had a salvage title on it. Except for a lingering issue with a little bit of steering play, I am generally satisfied with the car relative to what I payed for it. I did obtain a Carfax before purchasing the car which confirms the salvage status, but would like to obtain more information as to the extent or dollar value of the damage. You mentioned in one of your posts "obtaining a report" on a salvaged car. Are you referring to a standard Carfax report, or is there some way an individual can obtain more information on the extent of damage on a salvaged vehicle? Thanks! | |
