I think what you do is take out all your tools and spare tire from the trunk. Then there is a foam bottom that holds the spare tire, slide that out. Then there should be enough space to stick a full size spare in there. CaDDyNick04 03-25-06, 11:37 AM how about a 20in wheel lol not that will be tough! 20 inch wheel should fit fine. I think pjohnesq did it. I mean overall diameter of a 20 inch wheel and tire should be pretty much the same as the stock tire size. Maybe just a little bit bigger. My CTS already has a full size (OEM 17") spare wheel in there. I thought that was standard? 2004CTS 03-27-06, 02:10 PM My CTS already has a full size (OEM 17") spare wheel in there. Score! Did you buy your CTS new or used? Wonder if it's a feature on export models or if the previous owner had it done. RobertCTS 03-27-06, 03:42 PM 16" to 20" works. The hooker is the tire width. If to wide you can't get the spare tire cover back on correctly. kali_cts03 03-27-06, 07:39 PM
When I got my 03 CTS, I got the 17" wheels with my package.... and when I looked in the trunk a week or so ago I found a 16" spare in the trunk.... Is that bad???
and now I have 18" so is that even worse if I ever would need the spare tire  odysseus 03-27-06, 08:34 PM I wouldn't worry. Wheel (rim) diameter is irrelevant. Tire diameter is the key for a spare. Mine has the thin space saver spare. It's only about 5" wide, but has a 17" rim (as I recall). It's very light compared to a full size tire. Since having a flat usually only entails putting a spare on to get you home (or to a tire shop), and not to finish LeMans, the stock one is fine.
Putting a full size spare in the same location is easy, but my stock tire filled it to the brim. I doubt that my 245's will fit without bowing the cover. I'll pass on the added weight in the rear end (probably 20 to 25 lbs heavier than the thin spare).

Get it replaced! I think the 16" won't clear the brake pads. I seen a call back for that a few weeks earlier somewhere in the threads... ??? I found out last night that yes indeed the 04 17 inch rim and tire WILL fit into the spare tire recessm but you have to remove the little styrofoam thing.
god how cheap can you get, even my grand pric the styrofoam was plastic sealed. in this thing.. its just packing material.. man, HOW CHEAP YOU ARE GM!!
GM: "well it DOES come in as our cheapest to start with cadillac"

Mine was tastefully painted black to match my car. Did you see the 3 small pieces of dynomat type material under the styrofoam? yeah, mine has the tar paper as well. RobertCTS 03-28-06, 11:45 AM yeah, mine has the tar paper as well.
Oooooo..I didn't get no tar paper!
As to Ody's comment about the additional weight, the position of the weight is perfect for additional traction for street light racin'.:) |
