I now have 3 weeks to decide if I want to purchase the GM extended warranty

I was quoted
an additional 24 months or 40,000 miles for $2,690.00
an additional 36 months or 54,000 miles for $3,225.00

I like the GM warranty thus far, is seems mostly all inclusive as far as bumper to bumper coverage.... to this point it has been 0 deductable, but will change to $100 if I decide to do it...

Another big advantage for me is the Free rental (free cadillac specifically) through my dealership anytime my car is there even if its for a couple hours... this is huge for me because I work long SALES hours and only have enough time to drop car off and drive rental back to work.....

What are the pros and cons I should think about in buying the GM extended vs an aftermarket..?

what are the price and feature points?

what are your personal thoughts and experiences?

I plan on having the car another 2 years most likely.

That price seem to be a little steep, I was quoted a cheaper price, Although
I have an 04. Did you check with gmoutlet.com? There prices was cheaper
than my dealer.

I think the price is a little high. I think most dealers make a back end profit as well as a up front end profit when they sell the extended. I would definitely go with the GM option. I had an aftermarket company for another car and they would fight every little extra...example I had a sunroof problem that the dealer said was 2.5 hours labor and the extended would only pay 1.5 no matter what. I had to come out of pocket for the difference. If you can get your car certified pre-owned then your options are even better. I paid $1,000 for bumper to bumper to 100,000 miles or 7 years under the gm certified pre-owned program. Ask your dealer what it would take to certify the car.

Cerillo, keep looking into the detail of the www.gmoutlet.com, or call them direct. I got an EXTRA 48months or 60,000 miles on my '03 for 1950.00 (has 100 deductible). I thought this wasn't a bad offer, so I snatched it up.... maybe I will give my car to my mother in 3 years......good luck

I got my GM extended warranty for $1700, 40000mi. bumber-to-bumber $100 deductible, when I bought the car. I bought my car from a Pontiac dealer used and couldnt get the Cadillac 100000mi. extended so I figured this would be my best bet.

Good for you Cerillo, glad we could be of some help for you. Is that 24 ADDITIONAL months or 24 from right now? 40,000 ADDITIONAL miles, or 40k total (which wouldn't make sense... I know that).

You did good Cerillo. The price depends on year and milage on you car. I bought mine in Jan. for $1355 half the cost my dealer wanted. I had 20,000 miles on my 03. I got 60 months/50,000.00 miles 0 deductible. So I'm good to 70,000 miles or Jan. 2011. I don't drive it that much so in my case I know I'll be covered until Jan. 2011.

Im really satisfied with this...

Thanks again for the help guys!

I usually dont own a car for more then 2 years or 2 years and a couple months...so I only needed 24 months.....

Hopefully by then there will be a STS, or V series for me brand new!

ChicagoCTS32

You can't get certified after you buy it. The only thing you can do is get an extended warranty. Cerillo went with www.gmoutlet.com, as do a lot of other people.

If you bought it from a new car dealer it should already be a "Certified Pre-Owned Car," from them.
