I have an 06 2.8L CTS with 3,000 Miles on it, I do City and Highway driving but I would say mostly city, the computer in my car indicates I get around 14.9 MPG, Why is this so low? I should be gettin like 18 correct?

Depends on how hard youre having to push on the gas to make up for that wimpy engine. Sorry I just had to rib you a bit; I'm so relieved to finally not be driving the cts with the "smallest" engine on the forum.

Seriously though, driving style would be the biggest influence on gas mileage most likely. I've also heard a few people say that their gas mileage seemed really low when they first got their CTS, but improved once they had a few thousand miles on it. I would say if you drive fairly conservatively and it doesnt start to improve soon, you should have the dealer take a look at it. At least at this point any problems will be covered under waranty.

I would also suggest doing your own MPG calculations. Some people say that the automatic calculator is a little off.

All of those and are you driving with the sport button on? What kind of gas? I do highway and alot of city driving and average 20mpg......and that includes a lot of sitting in parking lots with the car running to make phone calls etc.........

I havent been driving in Sport(Don't even have the option) and use Regular 87 Octane. I also drive pretty conservatively in the city I dont hit the gas to hard but don't drive like a Grandma either, Dont use Heat or anything Excessively etc...

Hmmmmm as the chi said, I would take out a calculater and do the math yourself to make sure the car is accurate......Or just drive it a while longer and see if it averages itself out more.......

It does tell you what you used......just divide by the miles drivin

fill your tank completely, reset the trip odometer, drive til it's close to empty, fill it back up completely. Look at the number of gallons you bought, that is the total number of gallons you have used. Divide the miles by that gallon number.... bingo

I think the only way to know how much mileage you are getting is by resetting the trip odometer on fill up and then dividing the miles by the number of gallons of gas used to fill up next time. My trip computer is about 1 to 1.5 mpg off what I am really getting. It tells me I am getting more mileage than I actually am.

I have an 06 3.6 liter engine and in my 4,000 miles of travel (mostly city and mostly conservative driving) I am getting 19.4 mph. I haven't seen any real change in mileage since I got the car, but I also haven't driven it in warm weather for any length of time.

14 mpg seems really low for a CTS. I might be tempted to visit the dealer now and ask them to check it out. At $2.50 a gallon, the loss of those extra miles could be expensive.

This may sound silly, but do you drive your car in D or 4?

I think it might just have to do with the fact that I live in New York and the driving hear is like no other.

Reset the average MPG meter each time you fill up.
Next, remember when you are sitting at stop lights you are burning gas, but not moving. That means you are getting 0 mpg. Coupled with aggressive acceleration where you are getting about 8 mpg, and cruise coast at 30 mph getting about 25 I'd say you are probably just fine.
Start driving like a Grandmother and maybe it will improve a little.
The longer you go without resetting your average mpg reading, the less accurate it is.
