View Full Version : Alternatives To altering CTS Fogs

Before another Thread got locked down Kael had posted the possibility that the STS-V Fogs which use both clear lenses with an amber bulb might fit.
Dubbed Stealth is looking for a part number through his Caddy Dealership.
If he can get one in and get some measurements we'll know. If it won't work maybe he can return it to stock. The mounting brackets could produce another problem.

Getting that part will be difficult I think since it a new model. I don't know if any have reached the show rooms.

There was an STS-V at my dealership when I dropped by the other day. I looked at the fogs briefly and to me they look virtually identical to our fogs, minus the amber lense. Maybe I'll go back today or tomorrow and see if I cant take a closer look. I doubt I'll be any more likely to get a part number than Dubbed since if its not in the computers, I'm sure the dealership would frown on me wanting to take apart the wheel well to get a look at the back of the light.

either way the mounts should be modifiable, the sts front end is very similar to our cts's

FYI. I had some leftover heavy duty static cling window tint and covered the amber lenses with them. Has minimal effect on the brightness when the lights are on (DRL or signal) and looks very cool when the lights are off (which is the only time you would really beneift from the clear lens). When the lights are on, it shows amber just as it would with a clear lens (unless you change to a clear bulb - which I like but is not legal in some states). However, I do love the look of the clear lens and ultimately want to go that route as well. This is just temporary.

EDIT: The pic below is a hack, but all I have for now. Will try to take an actual shot this weekend because it looks better than the pic shows. Have had this done for several weeks but didn't mention it here suspecting nobody would be interested in it.

Clear background with a amber bulb looks stellar! You cant have a clear bulb for a turn signal in most states......Tints is blackening it out like others do with the tail lights and probably looks sweet.....how about a pic?

I have a stupid question. Why does it seem that no one likes the amber fogs? I may be insane, probably am, but I like the amber. I always know when a CTS is up ahead when on the road. I think it makes us stand out a bit.

As promised, here are a few pics of my CTS before I washed it today. A heavy static-cling tint was used to cover the headlight (i.e. "eyelids"), fog lights, and side turn signals. Everyone seemed to be primarily interested in the ones on the fog lights / front turn signals. Hope it helps...

Yes, as there is little to no affect on illumination when any of these lights are on. They look black when off and normal when on. At certain angles, the lenses look solid black. The lighting and the camera flash helped bring some of the orange though the tint in these pics.

i like the clear look, clear chromed (sts-v) would be better though. i may just turn mine off instead of changing them, should be getting my car back tomorrow.

they all look good really. planning on smoking my tail lights too.

Man those tints look nice. i gotta say that although the clears do look nicer:
box of tint = 10 bux and 5 mins labor (cutting and puttin it on)
custom clear fogs = ~150 and like 3 hours labor (remove bumper, cut fogs and hope not to f them up, put bumper back on)

yeah i think that the tints win :) :worship:

That's exactly why I gave it a try several weeks back. Didn't think anyone else would be interested until this thread arose.

Ok, so could you use the same kind of tint material that you use for the windows??? and if so would it be the same way to put them on the fog and side lights as the windows???

In theory, yes. But it may not hold up over time since window tint is designed to be on the inside of the glass (not directly exposed to the elements). The heavy duty static cling tint I bought is also designed for the inside of the glass - it's for keeping the sun off infants while in your car (don't laugh!). It's in the infant section of Wal-Mart and costs only four or five dollars. Used it as a test because it was cheap and could be easily removed if desired or necessary. Need to go buy another one, as my wife keeps asking what happended to the infant tint for her minivan :)-.

ok, sound good.... and what did you use to hold it on???
and you know what - if it works..... then more power to the infant tint  , I will look into it myself....

Same method as the Eye Lids..apply water, then the film and then sqeegie the water out between the film.

I'm with u, I dont have a problem with my ambers. And even though other GM cars my have them think it looks nice on the CTS and makes it stand out also.

I don't have any real issues with amber lenses, but the clear ones do look cooler (it's all relative).

Kali - The tint I referenced is static cling. Per RobertCTS, wet it and stick it then work out any air bubbles.

Im ok with the ambers due to the fact that i have the copper cts(looks pretty good). One thing that I would really like is the headlights off of the '06 sts's. they are freakin awesome. sorry to highjack the thread

It's still in line D-Dash.

I tried the tint over the Entire Fog/Amber lens. A company makes them in dark and light tint. It's pre-cut and easy to apply. I decided I didn't like it and removed it. I really would like the total clear lens. I hope somebody comes thru on that project.:bouncy:

Here's a link to tinted fog kits. I tried these in both tints but wasn't happy. Maybe its what you're looking for.
