I have a chance to buy one of 2 devilles, a 94 with the 4.9 and a fresh rebuilt tranny (friend runs the tranny shop that is selling it) and another deviller slightly newer with the northstar engine that I have not seen
either would be about $2500, what should I be looking for, this is going to be a second car and I want it to be reliable and cheap to maintain
I have not seen the interior of either nor do I know the milage on them yet, the 94 has a few door dings on it, saw it up on the lift so I could not see the inside
One thing to think about is gas mileage. My 4.9 gets 14mpg (under 300 a tank)and a newer n* would be better on gas(gets 350-400) and have more power.
Another thing, if both Deville's are the same price, which is in better shape. That N* engine is nicer but more expensive. I feel tha the 4.9 is very reliable. Wonder why they're selling at the same price. I would assume that the 94 is in better shape if they're the same price. I got my 94 deville in good shape with 90000 miles for 25000 and it runs beautiful...When I bought mine, my step father went out and purchased a 97 with 95000 miles for 5500. His is really nice but was twice as expensive.
I menat 2500, Not 25000 MY BAD

Yes, and not to mention that the N* is probably not as reliable as a good 4.9. Also, the Northstar is much more expensive to repair. But the performance of the N* is oustanding!! The 4.9 is quicker until about 40-45, then the N* will just walk away like nothing else!

the newer one with the nortstar is already sold, so it is out of the picture, just have to wait and see if they are going to sell the other one or not.

Take the 4.9! You won't regret it! And for $2,500 with a new tranny, sounds like a great deal!
my 94 has 150000 had to rebuild tranny but runs like a deer

I have 130,500 on my '94, and the engine and tranny run very smooth! It's been a great car!
