And once they come off, they suck to keep back on.

Thanks to all for the quick reply.

How do you remove the cover to get at the lug nut?

Also, are the covers plastic?

Pretty much the same way you remove a lug nut, just not with air tools or nearly that much TQ ;)

They are metal, I hear the 2005's dont have them and have real lugs instead.

In case you loose one - pn#9593175 should be <$3 each (or <$1.50 from our forum friendly folks @ Lindsey)

My 05 had them. I took the stocker's off and put on regular chrome lugnuts. Looks better and never have to worry about the caps flying off.

I don't think that my 06 has them.

My '05 has them (born October 2004). I just put a socket on them and remove/replace by hand. I do not use a wrench of any kind, just twist the socket with my hand. I also have wheel locks that came on the car, I'm not sure if they were standard or dealer installed.

So, the covers are threaded onto the lug nuts?

They are stamped stainless covers for a cad plated lugnut. Dumbass idea but GM uses this set up on everything. I bought a set of Black chrome lugs from Gorilla .. They look great.

I'm just looking for a closed end, chrome lug nut. Which one do you suggest?

The lug nut covers are screwed on, made of thin stainless steel, look good, and do not come off unless they have been fouled up by someone who did not know what they were doing. Their biggest advantage is that when they are removed and installed properly they don't get chewed up and turn into unsightly clumps of rust.

Just as a matter of interest, there has been a change in the valve stem covers for 2006. Previously the valve stem covers were made of bright aluminum and looked good. They have been replaced with dull grey, ugly plastic covers for 2006.

My Catera has black plastic lug nut covers, some airhead tried to take them off with an impact wrench. Where can I get the black chrome lug bolts for my 2000 Catera?
