Just wondering if anyone has installed the headrest TVs themselves?? I just got some today and plan on giving it a try after work.

I would not suggest the install of headrest tv's on your own. Have a trained professional do the installation because there is almost no margin for error. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

Thanks.

Well I decided to give it try and here are some picks of the process. It needs a little adjustment but not that bad for it being my 1st time cutting up a headrest. I was only able to get one done. Let me know what you think.

Good job, I did mine a little over a year ago. I bought extra headrests off of ebay just incase, I still have them.

Best bet is to buy new headrests with monitors already mounted in them. One reason is that it will be a better and cleaner instalation. I know that because I use to have a 2000 sub and I installed headrest monitors long before they made pre-installed ones. Second is that the wires for it will be hidden in the post. Trust me the wires will bend and break over time. I just bought an 07 and ordered 9" vizual logic moitors W/ factory style headrests.
The cost was $1,800

Pretty good for a self-install!

Me--I went with the Vizualogic headrest monitor kit...primarily because if I ever decide to sell my truck, I can always part out the headrest monitors. That, and the fact that I wound up relocating the factory articulated front headrests to the second row--second row headrests are non-articulating...at least that's the case on my truck.

Jr, what type of monitors are they? Did you have to cut the filling out of the headrest for it to sit down inside, or did you just screw it to the part in the headrest and it mashed down? By the way it looks great!

They are 7" Directed monitors. I cut and took out the foam so the headrest shroud could sit flush. It came with a trim that would make the monitor stick out a bit but I rather have it flush.

My friend has that monitor and I was looking into it but if I put that up I can't see out the rear view mirror and I can't see my daughter through the mirror! That is why I wanted to go with the headrest monitors and I like the directed stuff they have a good picture!

Finally. I have to secure them down and they should be nice and flush. The black plastic trim is going to be painted to match.

I did mine myself. I was pretty nervous at first so I ordered a set off Ebay. That seemed to ease my fears a little bit. Its not too hatd though. Just keep a steady hand and dont cut off too much. Take a little out, then test fit. Repeat as needed!

Great work. It looks perfect. Post some pictures after the black trim is painted. I would like to see what that looks like.

Thanks.

just out of curiosity.. if one was to do the install like above themselves would it be possible to just put the bezel under the leather and then have the leather go under the screen so it look as though there was no bezel and the monitor is just sitting there or is that a more complicated procedure..

I haven't fished my wiring through on mine yet, It got too cold to do work outside or even in the garage.
I would like to see some pictures and brief explanation on how you did it.

It can be done..I'm doing it this week. U just have to have the right gap so the screen pressure fits in.
I'll try to post pics of mine when they're done.

I'm so jealous. Wow. Oh, we are talking about the tv's? Haha. I have those too. I'm jealous that your rear windows are able to go down all the way. Lucky EXT and ESV owners out there. Haha. I'm just playing. The tv's look awesome. Congratulations. I would have been way too scared to cut out my own headrests. Definitly post some more pictures when the trim is painted.

Thanks.

2007 ready to go headrest video. Found these on eBay for $1200. Wonder how the logo was put into the headrests (for the '07).

Most upholstery shops can stitch anything you want to the headrest.

Great way to make $1,200 off a pair of headrests.

Well, I installed one of the 7" monitors on my passenger headrest last night. Turned out looking great. The only problem is, the post is not hollow, so you cant run the wires in them.

aw well. my headrest sits all the way down, so you cant see the wires anyway. I will post pics once im done with the driver side.

Update.

I installed both 7" Farenheit tv's on my headrest on my own.

Yes, I was nervous when doing it, but it wasnt as bad as I thought. You just gotta take your time, and NOT rush when doing this. Anyways, here are the pics as promised. It still have the sticky liner thingy on the screen, because I havent ordered my dvd player yet. I will be soon though. Still deciding if I am going to buy a navigation system, etc or what.

What do you guys think?

P.S.
I bought the 7" screens on ebay for like $130 each shipped. I called Car Toys, etc, and they were going to charge me $140-$160 to install EACH monitors on the headrest. I was like, damn, the installation charge, costed more than the tv's!!

So I decided to do it on my own, and save about $300 to put towards a dvd player.

who makes 11" headrests? thought the biggest were the 10.2"

I don't have pics yet because my digital camera is not charged plus I haven't wired it up yet. I just mounted them.

In any case, Innovatek makes the headrest monitors and believe it or not the beige colour is just slightly lighter than my shale interior and matches pretty good. I think it will look much better once I clean up the seats with a magic eraser.

Anywho, here is a link to the monitors I bought.

http://www.mp3playerstore.com/stuff_you_need/special/index.html

Now I have to buy a bigger roofmount monitor because it's only 10" LOL.
